The Hong Kong Jockey Club began a new partnership in 2011 with BMW to enhance the brand positions of both elite organisations through the running of the BMW Champions Mile. It is an international Group 1 race run over a distance of 1600m with prize money totalling HK$12 million or US$1.5 million.
First run in the 2001, the Champions Mile was initially established as the Hong Kong Group 1 season finale for top local milers and later became an International Group 1 race in 2007.
Many top local milers have captured this late season mile event since 2004/2005, including former Horse of the Year Good Ba Ba, dual Champions Mile winners Bullish Luck and Able One along with 2011 winner Xtension.
