Racing Incident Report
The start was delayed when WO AI NINN proved very difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, WO AI NINN will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. SUPER SURPRISE also proved difficult to load. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER SURPRISE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. NOBLE FLIER was slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by SABINA. HOW WONDERFUL was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, HORSE WIN WIN was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. In the early stages, UNITED raced wide and near the 1400 Metres was left racing without cover. UNITED was then allowed to stride forward near the 1200 Metres into a position outside the leader, HEALTHY BLUEBERRY. Passing the 1200 Metres, HOW WONDERFUL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRIVATE ROAD. After the 900 Metres, BREAKING POINT was left racing wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of BREAKING POINT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, BREAKING POINT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HOW WONDERFUL, W C Marwing stated that he was not able to offer any explanation for the horse’s performance as it travelled very well throughout the run and on entering the Home Straight he expected the horse to quicken into the race He said HOW WONDERFUL improved only for a short distance before quickly coming under pressure. He said after this HOW WONDERFUL was very disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SPINNAKER, D Whyte stated that the horse travelled well throughout the run after obtaining cover behind UNITED near the 900 Metres. He said at the entrance to the Straight he shifted SPINNAKER out from behind UNITED, however, SPINNAKER did not respond to his riding as he thought it would and then failed to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of HOW WONDERFUL, SPINNAKER and BREAKING POINT after the race did not show any significant findings. HOW WONDERFUL, REDOUTE STAR and UNITED were sent for sampling.
