Racing Incident Report

DARE TO WIN began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MONEY MAN. Approaching the 1000 Metres, DARE TO WIN was checked to avoid the heels of INSPIRATION which at this time was racing ungenerously and proving difficult to settle. Near the 800 Metres, DARE TO WIN was again steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of INSPIRATION. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, UNIQUE SPEED and DARE TO WIN were hampered and carried wider by CHEEKY LAD which at this time after being ridden along was checked to avoid the heels of BEAR MACHO which steadied away from the heels of THUNDER FLASH after that horse crossed to the lead. At the 700 Metres, NORTHERN HERO was checked when crowded for room inside BUTTERFIELD which at this time improved on the inside of UNIQUE SPEED which was carried in slightly by DARE TO WIN. In the middle stages, HONG KONG LAD, which was racing wide and without cover, hung out. Approaching the 600 Metres, BUTTERFIELD was awkwardly placed inside UNIQUE SPEED and behind INSPIRATION. At the 400 Metres, BEAR MACHO was steadied and shifted out when disappointed for running inside THUNDER FLASH. For some distance after this, BEAR MACHO was held up and unable to improve between THUNDER FLASH and MONEY MAN. To obtain clear running, BEAR MACHO was then shifted to the outside of MONEY MAN and in doing so carried INSPIRATION wider. For a considerable distance passing the 300 Metres, NORTHERN HERO was held up and unable to improve between BUTTERFIELD and HONG KONG LAD which at this time was giving ground. BUTTERFIELD was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, BUTTERFIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea and he also noted the horse had lost its left front plate. Before being allowed to race again, BUTTERFIELD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. HONG KONG LAD was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, HONG KONG LAD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to be a "roarer". BEAR MACHO and MONEY MAN were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted DARE TO WIN had blood present at its right nostril. An endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore DARE TO WIN was deemed not to have bled.
