Racing Incident Report

Prior to being presented in the Parade Ring, OWNERS LAD had an adjustment made to its right hind plate. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. OWNERS LAD, which was fractious in its stall, began awkwardly and lost ground. TAIJI SPIRIT began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of GOLD MEDAL WINNER. MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted out and bumped BEAR MACHO. Apprentice K L Chui (SMART FELLOW) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 900 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting in when not clear of BEAR MACHO, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of INSPIRATION which as a result was checked. In the circumstances, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for Apprentice Chui's licence to ride in races be suspended for a period to expire on Thursday 18 January 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 7 January 2007. After the 800 Metres, BEAR MACHO became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room inside SMART FELLOW which was carried in by ZAVONE. No action was taken. ZAVONE hung out making the Home Turn. For a considerable distance after straightening, FLY ME TO THE MOON had difficulty obtaining clear running. After the 400 Metres, OWNERS LAD was bumped and then carried wider by MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP which was shifted out into clear running. At the 250 Metres, PICKETT was bumped and carried wider by INSPIRATION which at this time shifted to the outside of SMART FELLOW into clear running. Also at the 250 Metres, BEAR MACHO had difficulty obtaining clear running behind GOLD MEDAL WINNER. At the 100 Metres, GOLD MEDAL WINNER, which was commencing to give ground, was bumped by BEAR MACHO which shifted in away from SMART FELLOW. For the major part of the race, DILIGENT and ZAVONE raced wide and without cover. When questioned, D Nikolic (MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP) said in the early part of the Straight he shifted his mount wider on the track into clear running. He said after the 300 Metres MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP commenced to hang out and whilst he considered changing the whip into his left hand, he believed the horse was doing its best being ridden out vigorously hands and heels, he therefore decided not to change whip hands but rather to ensure his mount maintained a straight line. D Nikolic was told his riding of MUTUAL FRIENDSHIP in the Straight had come under notice and he should ensure he rides his mounts out in a manner which is not open to query. DAV AND MING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DAV AND MING after the race did not show any significant findings. SMART FELLOW, INSPIRATION and BEAR MACHO were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported GOLD MEDAL WINNER had lost its left front plate.
