Racing Incident Report

SPECIAL KING PRAWN began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped TIGER PRAWN. Shortly after the start, WHATAFANTASY was checked when crowded for room between ELEGANT WIN and SANZIRO which was carried in by HARB which shifted ground on jumping. SUPER TRAVELLER began awkwardly and lost ground. After the 1200 Metres, INSPIRATION, which after having initially drawn outside SUPER TRAVELLER shifted to the inside of that runner and then was ridden along to improve its position, was steadied when crowded for room between SUPER TRAVELLER and SANZIRO. No action was taken. At the 900 Metres, SUNNY POWER was steadied to avoid the heels of TCHAIKOVSKY (M W Leung) which shifted in when barely clear. M W Leung was advised to exercise greater care. After the 900 Metres, NOBLE CRUSADER got its head on the side, shifted in away from ELEGANT WIN and caused crowding to MAVERICK STAR. C K Tong (HARB) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that making the turn at the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of ELEGANT WIN, causing that horse to be carried in and caused crowding on its inside to NOBLE CRUSADER which was carried in across the rightful running of MAVERICK STAR which as a result was severely checked. When MAVERICK STAR was checked severely, SPECIAL KING PRAWN, which was following, was steadied in consequence and shifted out when not clear of WHATAFANTASY which was checked. C K Tong was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 14 June 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 6 June 2007. In addition, C K Tong was fined $20,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating two further racedays. On straightening, TIGER PRAWN was steadied when disappointed for running between SUNNY POWER and ROYAL PERICLES. Shortly after straightening, TCHAIKOVSKY shifted in and bumped the running rail. At the 400 Metres, SPECIAL KING PRAWN was steadied and shifted to the outside of INSPIRATION to obtain clear running. O Doleuze (SUNNY POWER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 200 Metres he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount which was hanging in from shifting ground when not clear of ROYAL PERICLES, thereby causing that horse to be carried in which in turn caused TIGER PRAWN to be carried in across the rightful running of TCHAIKOVSKY which as a result was checked. O Doleuze was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 18 June 2007 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Chantilly racemeeting to be held in France on Sunday 10 June 2007. In addition, O Doleuze was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday. Throughout the race, SUPER TRAVELLER travelled wide and without cover, for the majority of the race hung out and in the Straight finished tailed out. The performance of SUPER TRAVELLER was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER TRAVELLER will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. D Nikolic (YELLOW DIAMOND) explained he had been instructed to ride the horse in midfield with cover if possible. He said YELLOW DIAMOND began well, from a wide barrier he allowed runners on his inside to go forward and hoped he would be able to obtain a position with cover. He said after the 1000 Metres when he was shifting across, SUPER TRAVELLER shifted out which resulted in him continuing to race wide and without cover. He said because of this approaching the 800 Metres he decided to steady YELLOW DIAMOND to obtain a position close to the rail, however, to do so required him to go back to the rear. He said when being ridden in this manner YELLOW DIAMOND closed the race off strongly. He did say YELLOW DIAMOND travelled further back than was instructed, however, in the circumstances of the race he believed it was in the horse's best interest. W M Lai (ROYAL PERICLES) said he was instructed to have the horse which had drawn the outside barrier in a position forward of midfield. He said he rode ROYAL PERICLES along in the early stages, the horse immediately commenced to over-race and for this reason he shifted across with TCHAIKOVSKY and raced outside the lead. He said ROYAL PERICLES continued to over-race and did not relax. D Whyte (INSPIRATION) said he was instructed to ride the horse in 6th or 7th position with cover if possible and to ensure he did not have the horse over-racing. He said he was told at its most recent start that the horse did not settle and because of that was disappointing in the manner in which it finished the race off. He said from a wide barrier today he did not ride INSPIRATION along in the early stages, however, endeavoured to obtain a position as instructed. He said when he shifted to the inside of SUPER TRAVELLER, that horse caused some inconvenience to him and as a result he lost ground. He said for him then to have obtained a midfield position would have required him to ride INSPIRATION along which was contrary to the instructions he had received. He said at the 600 Metres when he was riding INSPIRATION along, the horse did not respond as he would have expected and in the Straight failed to close the race off. Mr T S Wong, assistant trainer to Mr J Moore, trainer of INSPIRATION, confirmed the riding instructions issued to D Whyte. He said Mr Moore was of the opinion INSPIRATION is best ridden with cover. He said it was felt if the horse was to go forward from the draw in today's race, it would have difficulty obtaining cover, therefore D Whyte was instructed to ride the horse as stated. INSPIRATION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, INSPIRATION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. SPECIAL KING PRAWN and SUPER TRAVELLER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPECIAL KING PRAWN after the race did not show any significant findings. Following the race, SUPER TRAVELLER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise and an endoscopic examination confirmed the horse to be an early "roarer". SUNNY POWER and TIGER PRAWN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported TIGER PRAWN had lost its left front plate.
