Racing Incident Report

On arrival at the Start, it was noted that ALL YOU NEED had a significant amount of blood in its mouth. ALL YOU NEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, ALL YOU NEED was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, ALL YOU NEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MR POTENTIAL was slow to begin.
WINNERS FOLLOW ME shifted out at the start, resulting in TIME TO CELEBRATE being taken out onto C P POWER. After this, C P POWER was steadied and shifted across behind runners.
SMILING PRIDE and CALL ME AWESOME were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Passing the 1300 Metres, MALMSTEEN got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, MAGIC AGILITY raced tight inside SUPERPOWER (B Prebble) which shifted in. B Prebble was reprimanded. INVINCIBLE FRESH, which was following, was hampered in consequence.
Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, MALMSTEEN got its head up when proving difficult to settle.
Near the 650 Metres, INVINCIBLE FRESH became unbalanced when steadied away from the heels of MAGIC AGILITY.
Rounding the Home Turn, INVINCIBLE FRESH momentarily raced tight between SMILING PRIDE and MAGIC AGILITY when improving into tight running between those horses.
Also rounding the Home Turn, when giving ground, WINNERS FOLLOW ME got its head on the side and hung out.
Shortly after entering the Straight, MALMSTEEN collapsed, resulting in Apprentice H N Wong being dislodged. Apprentice Wong was stood down from his riding engagement in the final race and was transported to hospital.
The performance of WINNERS FOLLOW ME, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WINNERS FOLLOW ME will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Throughout the race, TIME TO CELEBRATE travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, T Berry expressed concern regarding the action of SUNNY WAY. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY WAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SUNNY WAY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Apprentice H T Mo stated that stepping up in distance he was asked to obtain a forward position on WINNERS FOLLOW ME and hopefully obtain a position with cover behind the speed in about 3rd or 4th position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode WINNERS FOLLOW ME positively from a wide barrier, however, due to the makeup of the field he had to make a considerable amount of use of his mount to cross horses to his inside approaching and passing the 1200 Metres. He said at this time there were a number of horses positioned to the inside of WINNERS FOLLOW ME and it was not possible for him to obtain the desired position with cover behind the speed, therefore he elected to ride his mount forward to obtain a position closer to the rail. He said he had to make more use of WINNERS FOLLOW ME to cross SUPERPOWER and it was not until near the 900 Metres that he was able to clear that horse. He said at this time he was about three quarters of a length in front of SPICY SURE and given the amount of use that he had to make of WINNERS FOLLOW ME, he did not believe that it was in the horse’s best interests for him to continue forward of SPICY SURE to obtain the lead on the rail as he would have had to make further use of WINNERS FOLLOW ME for him to clear that horse. He added after racing to the outside of SPICY SURE, he attempted to steady WINNERS FOLLOW ME, however, remained racing in advance of SPICY SURE and to that’s horse outside. He said WINNERS FOLLOW ME came under heavy pressure prior to the Home Turn and then gave ground noticeably. Apprentice Mo was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, after crossing SUPERPOWER to race outside of SPICY SURE, he should have made more of an effort to steady his mount to race on terms with SPICY SURE rather than continuing to race about a half length in advance of that horse.
A veterinary inspection of SUPERPOWER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TIME TO CELEBRATE and SPICY SURE were sent for sampling. Samples were also taken from MALMSTEEN.
<6/11/2017 Additional Veterinary Report>SUPERPOWER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPERPOWER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SUPERPOWER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
