Racing Incident Report

When proceeding to the barriers, FAITHFUL TRINITY became fractious, resulting in M L Yeung, its rider, being dislodged without incident. FAITHFUL TRINITY then galloped for some distance riderless. Acting on veterinary advice that FAITHFUL TRINITY was not suitable to race, that horse was withdrawn by order of the Stewards. Before being allowed to race again, FAITHFUL TRINITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. M L Yeung was subsequently examined by the Club’s Racing Medical Officer and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements.
RIGHTEOUS MATE began awkwardly and lost ground.
JADE FORTUNE and KIRAM bumped at the start.
WHAMPOA STAR began only fairly and shortly after the start was shifted away from the heels of LITTLE DRAGON which was taken out by DR WIN WIN which in turn was taken out by MISTER MONTE.
From a wide barrier, SILVERFIELD was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
KIRAM lost its left front plate approaching the winning post on the first occasion.
Near the 550 Metres, LAND GRANT and GRAN MASTER bumped.
Passing the 500 Metres, BIG BANG BONG was awkwardly placed behind MISTER MONTE which was commencing to give ground.
Rounding the Home Turn, MISTER MONTE, which was giving ground abruptly, was crowded for room between LAND GRANT which got its head on the side and lay in when racing tight inside GRAN MASTER and JADE FORTUNE (N Callan) which shifted out. Whilst there were some circumstances to this incident, nonetheless N Callan was advised to ensure that he is properly clear of other runners when shifting ground.
At the entrance to the Straight, JADE FORTUNE and LAND GRANT bumped due to both horse shifting ground. JADE FORTUNE and LAND GRANT then raced tight for some distance.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GRAN MASTER, J Moreira stated that his mount did not enjoy the best of runs from its wide barrier as it was left racing very wide due to the makeup of the field in the early and middle stages. He said he was able to shift GRAN MASTER in after the 1000 Metres, however, at this time his mount became unbalanced of its own accord. He said he shifted GRAN MASTER to the outside of LAND GRANT near the 650 Metres and then was taken wider still when that horse shifted to the outside of MISTER MONTE which was giving ground. He added his mount became unbalanced on a number of occasions approaching and rounding the Home Turn when racing tight outside LAND GRANT. He said because of the circumstances of the race GRAN MASTER was not able to close off the race as strongly as it had done in the past. A veterinary inspection of GRAN MASTER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MISTER MONTE, Z Purton stated that his mount was not comfortable in its action at any stage of the race. He said after veering out at the start, MISTER MONTE lay out rounding the turns and was reluctant to shift across behind runners. He said at the 800 Metres MISTER MONTE came under pressure and then, despite being ridden along, commenced to give ground from the 600 Metres. He said whilst MISTER MONTE was crowded for room rounding the Home Turn, the horse was well beaten at this time. He added he did note that MISTER MONTE had not raced well on the All Weather surface in the past. A veterinary inspection of MISTER MONTE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MISTER MONTE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MISTER MONTE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned, Trainer C S Shum stated that when TANG FLEMING was successful last start, the horse was able to lead the race from an inside barrier without having to be ridden along too aggressively. He said in tonight’s race he identified a number of horses engaged in the race which had previously shown good early speed. He said as TANG FLEMING had drawn barrier 14 and given that the 1650 Metres start was relatively close to the first turn, he did not believe that TANG FLEMING would have sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside and would therefore likely to be left racing very wide. He said with the race expected to be run at a strong tempo, he felt that there was an opportunity for TANG FLEMING to obtain a midfield position as he had hoped that the field would open up in the early stages given the speed horses which had drawn favourable gates. After considering the circumstances of TANG FLEMING’s most recent start, the composition of that field together with the composition of tonight’s race, the Stewards considered that Mr Shum’s instructions were reasonable in the circumstances and accordingly no further action was taken. A veterinary inspection of TANG FLEMING immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
DR WIN WIN and NUCLEAR POWER were sent for sampling.
