After again being placed in the starting gates the start was delayed when the bridle on BRILLIANT WINNER was refitted. Before being allowed to race again, BRILLIANT WINNER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. Jumped awkwardly. Shortly after the start became unbalanced when crowded between PACKING KING and LUCKY TWENTY, both of which shifted ground. Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.

3 10 NAVAS G (L194) 7 H Y Yuen (-10) When questioned regarding her riding in the early stages of the Home Straight and the reason LUCRATIVE EIGHT was able to obtain clear running to her inside Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that making the Home Turn she improved to the outside of I EXCELLE but then her mount, which was having its first race start, shifted out further than she had anticipated. She said as a result LUCRATIVE EIGHT was able to obtain clear running to her inside near the 400 Metres. Apprentice Yuen was advised that whilst accepting her inexperience of riding in Hong Kong, wherever possible, she should make a greater effort to ride her mounts in a more competitive manner.
8 11 PRESTIGE HALL (K040) 6 H Bowman Jumped only fairly. Near the 1000 Metres was steadied to avoid THE HEIR when being shifted in behind that runner. For some distance near the 300 Metres had difficulty obtaining clear running when endeavouring to improve between PACKING KING and A TIME FOR US. H Bowman stated that once his mount obtained clear running it finished the race off only fairly in the Home Straight. Sent for sampling post-race.

M L Yeung (FAMILY KNIGHT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 250 Metres he allowed his mount to shift out when not clear of AESTHETICISM, resulting in AESTHETICISM being badly crowded and taken out onto TYCOON EXPRESS and also contributing to TYCOON EXPRESS becoming badly crowded to the inside of MASSIVE GLORY. M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for one Hong Kong raceday to be conducted on Wednesday, 13 May 2026 at Happy Valley. In assessing penalty, the Stewards determined the carelessness grade 2 and the consequences grade 2 and also considered his excellent race riding record. J Moreira reported that after receiving interference near the 250 Metres he had some concern with his mount’s action thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

K C Leung stated that his mount jumped only fairly and as a result he had to make use of it in the early stages to go forward and lead as instructed. He said as a result when placed under pressure in the Home Straight his mount found it difficult to respond to his riding, particularly under its top weight of 132 lbs and also resented the kickback as it was giving ground in the Home Straight. Trainer W K Mo concurred with the explanation offered by Jockey Leung and advised that the horse had pleased him prior to today’s race. The barrier manners and performance of ABSOLUTE HEART, a last start winner, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ABSOLUTE HEART will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. H Bowman stated that his mount was disappointing in its failure to respond to his riding in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ROBOT STAR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

11 9 DAILY ACCLAIM (L273) 3 J Moreira Jumped only fairly. For some distance near the 600 Metres became unbalanced when buffeted between LUCKY BALERION and ACE. J Moreira stated that his mount was stirred up prior to the event. He said after travelling satisfactorily during the early stages his mount did not respond to his riding when asked for an effort in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

6 11 LUCKY BALERION (L125) 2 M F Poon Bumped near the 600 Metres. Approaching the 200 Metres was steadied when held up for clear running behind PHOENIX LIGHT as that runner was giving ground. As a result LUCKY BALERION, which was positioned close to the heels of PHOENIX LIGHT, blundered when being shifted to the outside of PHOENIX LIGHT to obtain clear running near the 150 Metres. After being shifted to the outside of PHOENIX LIGHT rider M F Poon dropped his left rein for a number of strides.
4 12 ACE (K307) 13 C L Chau (-2) Bumped near the 600 Metres. Prior to declaring weighed-in the Stewards gave consideration if there were sufficient grounds for a protest/objection against NYX GLUCK being declared the second placegetter subsequent to ACE being crowded over the concluding stages when NYX GLUCK (E Brown) shifted out. Having regard to the margin of 1 ¼ lengths between the two horses at the finish of the race the Stewards declined to lodge a protest/objection and weighed-in was declared on the numbers semaphored by the Judge. E Brown was reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts sooner than what he did on this occasion. Sent for sampling post-race.
9 13 CALIFORNIA BAY (K364) 14 K Teetan K Teetan confirmed the instructions were to lead. He said when his mount jumped only fairly he was obliged to make use of it in the early stages to comply with those instructions and as a result CALIFORNIA BAY did not finish the race off when under pressure in the Home Straight. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

He said this resulted in COOL BOY racing in a more forward position than intended. Trainer J Richards confirmed the instructions were to be handy but accepted the reasons as to why the horse was obliged to race in a more forward position. Sent for sampling post-race.

13 1 JANTAR MANTAR (K910) 6 Y Kawada Jumped only fairly and then was bumped by INVINCIBLE IBIS which shifted out slightly. Near the 1400 Metres was bumped by RED LION which shifted in slightly, resulting in JANTAR MANTAR shifting in and away from RED LION. When questioned Y Kawada stated that his mount did not travel well throughout the race and, in his opinion, was not suited by racing on the Sha Tin surface, particularly as it had raced disappointingly at its previous race start at Sha Tin on 8 December 2024. Trainer T Takano stated that JANTAR MANTAR had pleased him since arriving in Hong Kong and he had expected it to perform well, however, he could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. 4 10 AEROINVINCIBLE (J180) 2 A Atzeni When questioned A Atzeni stated that he had been instructed to lead the event and in the Home Straight to shift away from the running rail as connections had felt this would be an advantageous position on the track. He said in accordance with those instructions, upon entering the Home Straight he shifted his mount out approximately four horses away from the running rail. Trainer P C Ng confirmed the instructions and the reasons as to why those instructions were issued.

After the running of Race 1, the track classification for the turf course was officially changed from "Good” to "Good to Firm”. This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective. As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 1 being run on a track rated "Good to Firm”.

Trainer D Eustace was fined the sum of $2,000 for entering L388 in a barrier trial on Friday, 24 April 2026 when that horse was not named at the time of entry.
