When the pace steadied near the 900 Metres raced keenly and as a result was steadied to avoid PERFECT PAIRING. A short distance later SMART BEAUTY then became unbalanced when FAMILY FORTUNE was taken in by HAILTOTHEVICTORS which was racing tight to the inside of SUPER HONG KONG. Approaching the 600 Metres was steadied when unable to improve to the inside of PERFECT PAIRING.
14 12 RUN YES RUN (J264) 10 M L Yeung M L Yeung reported that his mount failed to run out a strong 1800 Metres. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”.
13 13 GOLD TACK (H106) 12 P N Wong (-7) When questioned Apprentice P N Wong stated that her instructions were to go forward. She said in the early stages when positioned to the outside of ALL ARE MINE she was anticipating that horse to shift to the rail which would allow her mount to obtain a position with cover. She said when MATSU VICTOR held its position to the inside of ALL ARE MINE in the early stages she was obliged to race wide and without cover for the remainder of the event. When questioned if there was an opportunity to go forward and cross RUN YES RUN having regard to the middle stages being run outside of standard time Apprentice Wong stated that she was reluctant to urge her mount forward as she did not feel it was travelling well enough and that when she realised she was not able to get cover it was getting close to the field turning out of the Back Straight.

Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that after being held up between the 250 Metres and the 150 Metres behind ZOUPER FELLOW her mount then did not finish the race off when placed under pressure thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
4 2 MABUBU (K586) 4 J Orman Bumped shortly after the start. After travelling a short distance was then eased to avoid ZOUPER FELLOW which shifted in slightly.
12 3 CLOUD NINE (L050) 10 L Ferraris L Ferraris could offer no explanation for the horse’s disappointing performance. Trainer M Newnham advised the horse had pleased him since its last start. He said CLOUD NINE may not have appreciated backing up within a 11-day period and he would now look to space the horse’s runs in future. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of CLOUD NINE was considered disappointing as compared to its previous race starts. Before being allowed to race again, CLOUD NINE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Trainer J Richards agreed with the views of Apprentice Yuen and also stated that, in his opinion, the horse may be feeling the effects of recent racing. He added that as a result he would now give the horse a let-up before its next race start. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. 8 2 A TIME FOR US (K475) 9 C Y Ho When questioned C Y Ho stated that his mount was not comfortable on the "Good to Yielding” track conditions and as a result he was obliged to ride his mount along throughout the event to maintain its position. He said over the final 200 Metres when he was concerned that his horse was not stretching out fully on the track he then did not ride it out to the finish. C Y Ho was advised, wherever possible, he should endeavour to ride his mounts out to ensure they obtain the best possible placing in the field.

6 4 NAVAS G (L194) 5 H Y Yuen (-10) On jumping was severely checked when crowded between PAPAYA BROSE which was taken out by MIGHTY FIGHTER and MASSIVE REWARD (E Brown) which jumped awkwardly and shifted in. E Brown was advised in similar circumstance he would be expected to make a greater effort to straighten his mounts. Apprentice H Y Yuen stated that the instructions were to go forward and endeavour to lead. She said due to the interference her mount received at the start it settled back in the field. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
5 5 OLDTOWN (K105) 10 J Orman When questioned regarding his riding on the Home Turn and the reason he shifted to the inside to follow PAPAYA BROSE J Orman stated that his instructions were to settle his horse behind midfield where it was comfortable. He said he was also instructed to make runs to the inside as connections were of the view this was an advantageous position to obtain on the track. He said making the Home Turn when positioned behind MIGHTY FIGHTER he elected to allow OLDTOWN to shift to the rail to follow the favourite PAPAYA BROSE in accordance with his instructions. He added when PAPAYA BROSE was unable to improve he was then briefly held up for clear running before obtaining a run between PAPAYA BROSE and MIGHTY FIGHTER approaching the 400 Metres after which OLDTOWN finished the race off well. Trainer M Newnham confirmed the instructions issued.

When PEGAS gave ground quickly and LIFELINE EXPRESS then shifted in slightly when obtaining a run to the inside of MEGASTAR HEART, SAVVY BRILLIANT then made contact with the hindquarters of LIFELINE EXPRESS which resulted in LIFELINE EXPRESS shifting in and SAVVY BRILLIANT having to be severely checked when disappointed for clear running between PEGAS and LIFELINE EXPRESS. 1 14 ROMANTIC FANTASY (H168) 9 A Badel The Stewards conducted an inquiry into Jockey A Badel’s right arm, which was holding the whip, extending out towards the second placegetter SUPER GOLDENDRAGON approaching the finish of the race. A Badel stated that after riding his mount out in his usual manner in the Home Straight, over the concluding stages when racing close to SUPER GOLDENDRAGON, he was restricted in being able to use his whip due to the close proximity to SUPER GOLDENDRAGON. He said as a result approaching the finish of the event and in accordance with his riding style he pushed his mount which resulted in him shifting his weight forward and then losing his balance slightly and in his right hand holding the whip extending away from his body and towards SUPER GOLDENDRAGON as the horses approached the finish. Jockey K C Leung, rider of SUPER GOLDENDRAGON, stated that as his focus was on riding his mount out vigorously to the finish he did not feel any contact on his body nor was he aware if the whip of Jockey Badel had made contact with his horse. After considering all the evidence including various patrol angles that were available to the Stewards, they accepted the explanation of Jockey Badel, however, he was advised that in similar circumstances he must ride with more care to ensure that his arm holding the whip is not extending away from his body so as to avoid any contact with any rider or horse. J Moreira stated that his mount travelled well throughout the early and middle stages but when placed under pressure in the Home Straight weakened. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of PATONGA HEART, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PATONGA HEART will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the running of Race 6, the track classification was officially changed from "Good to Yielding” to "Yielding”. This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective. As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 6 being run on a track rated "Yielding”.
