ROMANTIC FANTASY (H168) | 9 | A Badel | The Stewards conducted an inquiry into Jockey A Badel’s right arm, which was holding the whip, extending out towards the second placegetter SUPER GOLDENDRAGON approaching the finish of the race. A Badel stated that after riding his mount out in his usual manner in the Home Straight, over the concluding stages when racing close to SUPER GOLDENDRAGON, he was restricted in being able to use his whip due to the close proximity to SUPER GOLDENDRAGON. He said as a result approaching the finish of the event and in accordance with his riding style he pushed his mount which resulted in him shifting his weight forward and then losing his balance slightly and in his right hand holding the whip extending away from his body and towards SUPER GOLDENDRAGON as the horses approached the finish. Jockey K C Leung, rider of SUPER GOLDENDRAGON, stated that as his focus was on riding his mount out vigorously to the finish he did not feel any contact on his body nor was he aware if the whip of Jockey Badel had made contact with his horse. After considering all the evidence including various patrol angles that were available to the Stewards, they accepted the explanation of Jockey Badel, however, he was advised that in similar circumstances he must ride with more care to ensure that his arm holding the whip is not extending away from his body so as to avoid any contact with any rider or horse. Sent for sampling post-race. |
