He said whilst there was an opportunity to go forward he was not aware that the pace of the event was being run slowly and for this reason when his horse was in a comfortable rhythm he elected to remain racing without cover. SKY DEEP (K041) | 1 | E C W Wong (-3) | E C W Wong was found guilty of a careless riding charge for causing interference approaching the 400 Metres (see COLOURFUL GAN). When questioned E C W Wong stated that the instructions were to go forward and lead if possible, however, he was also given the option to take up a position with cover if his mount did not show sufficient pace to lead. He said SKY DEEP jumped only fairly and he rode the horse along in the early stages in an endeavour to hold the lead. He said when a number of runners to his outside were showing superior pace he was obliged to obtain a trailing position behind MISSION GIANT. He said making the Home Turn when THE LION KING commenced to give ground he was obliged to shift to that runner’s outside to improve and as a result made contact with THE LION KING near the 400 Metres when improving between THE LION KING and AMAZING GAZE. He added that entering the Home Straight he observed MISSION GIANT shift out slightly and as a result he endeavoured to improve to that runner’s inside, however, when MISSION GIANT maintained its position close to the rail he was obliged to check his mount when disappointed for clear running near the 300 Metres. He said as a result he was obliged to shift to the outside of MISSION GIANT where his mount secured clear running near the 250 Metres. After considering his explanation the Stewards found that Jockey Wong had endeavoured to comply with his instructions in the early stages, however, he was advised that on entering the Home Straight he had made an error of judgement in endeavouring to improve to the inside of MISSION GIANT where there was not sufficient room to do so. Jockey Wong was further advised that he would be expected in future to show better judgement than what he did on this occasion. |

E C W Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Thursday, 1 October 2026 and to expire on Monday, 5 October 2026 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). Whilst the Stewards accepted that Jockey Chadwick had made some effort to correct his mount he was severely reprimanded and advised in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort than what he did on this occasion to straighten his mounts. A Atzeni stated that his mount was able to obtain the lead in the early stages where it travelled satisfactorily. He said on the Home Turn when pressured by MISSION GIANT his mount came under pressure and gave ground noticeably thereafter. A veterinary inspection immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse’s trachea. 1. Addition to Racing Incidents Report of 6 September 2026 Sha Tin Racemeeting
Race 10 (10)
MASTER PAYMENT – Raced wide and without cover for the majority of the event.
2. 6 September 2026 Sha Tin Racemeeting
Race 5 (5)
PODIUM – When questioned regarding his riding on the Home Turn and the reason he elected to shift to the inside of JOLLY COMPANION to attempt to secure clear running A Atzeni stated that he was instructed to allow PODIUM to settle where comfortable and to ride the horse between runners to give it a chance to finish the race off. He said whilst there was an opportunity to shift to the outside of JOLLY COMPANION he was of the opinion that KANSAS, which was racing in advance of him, was travelling reasonably well and for this reason he elected to follow that runner through to comply with his instructions. He added that when KANSAS did not improve as he had anticipated this resulted in PODIUM being held up for clear running between the 400 Metres and the 200 Metres. Trainer D Eustace confirmed the instructions issued and stated that he issued those instructions on the basis that PODIUM races best when held up for a final run, particularly as the horse has performed best when racing at Happy Valley.
3. Whip Rule Offences – 6 September 2026 Sha Tin Racemeeting
The following jockey was found to be in breach of Rule 100(3)(ii)(a) for using the whip on consecutive occasions:-
