Race:1 (127) YAU KOM TAU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 2200 m

PEARL FURU began awkwardly and lost ground.
From the outside barrier, LITTLE FANTASY was steadied and shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.
Passing the 1900 Metres, ROCKET GO raced tight inside ROCK THE TREE which was taken in by DAZZLE WINNER (C Schofield). DAZZLE WINNER was then shifted out to relieve the tightening to runners to its inside. Then passing the 1800 Metres, ROCKET GO was steadied away from the heels of ROCK THE TREE (U Rispoli) which, after racing tight inside DAZZLE WINNER, then shifted in of its own accord. Both C Schofield and U Rispoli were severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that they provide comfortable racing room for other runners.
Passing the 500 Metres, LITTLE FANTASY was awkwardly placed behind GLENEALY PRIZE.
Approaching and passing the 400 Metres, THE JOY OF GIVING was unable to improve when held up behind WEALTHY FORTUNE which came under pressure.
Near the 350 Metres, LITTLE FANTASY was steadied away from the heels of GLENEALY PRIZE.
Passing the 300 Metres, THE JOY OF GIVING was shifted to the inside of AMAZING GOLD to obtain clear running after being momentarily awkwardly placed behind that horse.
The performance of ROCKET GO, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ROCKET GO will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the performance of AMAZING GOLD, M L Yeung stated that he was able to take up a forward position in the early stages without having to make any use of the horse. He said after allowing WEALTHY FORTUNE to cross AMAZING GOLD near the 1700 Metres, AMAZING GOLD travelled satisfactorily until the pace of the race quickened after the 800 Metres. He said AMAZING GOLD immediately came under pressure and did not show the same turn of foot as CLEMENT LEGEND which improved to the outside of AMAZING GOLD approaching the 700 Metres. He said after this AMAZING GOLD responded only fairly to his riding and, in his opinion, was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He added having regard to the fact that AMAZING GOLD was stepping up in distance today, he did suggest to connections that the horse may be better suited being ridden more quietly over a distance such as that of today’s race. A veterinary inspection of AMAZING GOLD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of DAZZLE WINNER immediately following the race found that horse to be distressed. The performance of DAZZLE WINNER, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DAZZLE WINNER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
AMAZING GOLD, CLEMENT LEGEND and THE JOY OF GIVING were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (128) TSING YI HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1650 m

MAGIC SUCCESS shifted in at the start and bumped ISHVARA. MAGIC SUCCESS was then steadied to obtain cover.
From wide barriers, TEN FLAMES and THE SYLPH were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
For some distance after passing the winning post on the first occasion, THE SYLPH got its head up and raced ungenerously.
After the 1000 Metres, STARLIT KNIGHT commenced to prove difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of UNIVERSAL GO GO. Then passing the 800 Metres, STARLIT KNIGHT, which continued to prove difficult to settle, was allowed to shift out and improved its position around the field to assume the lead near the 500 Metres.
After passing the 700 Metres, THE SYLPH again got its head up and raced ungenerously when brushed by MARVEL JOY which improved to be racing outside ISHVARA.
Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, THE FULL BLOOM and MAGIC SUCCESS raced tight and came into contact as a consequence of THE FULL BLOOM attempting to shift out from behind YOUNG EMPIRE which came under pressure. When THE FULL BLOOM was able to shift out from behind YOUNG EMPIRE at the 500 Metres, MAGIC SUCCESS was inconvenienced and taken out onto THE SYLPH which was forced wider.
ROMANTIC BONANZA travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of ROMANTIC BONANZA, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, ROMANTIC BONANZA will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of U Rispoli (TEN FLAMES), 6th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horse’s finishing position having regard to the neck margin between that horse and the 5th placegetter, ISHVARA, nonetheless he was reprimanded and reminded of the requirement to ride his mounts out all the way to the end of the race where circumstances permit.
When questioned, C Schofield stated that it was intended for MARVEL JOY to be ridden in a forward position. He said it was anticipated that YOUNG EMPIRE and GRAND HARBOUR would lead the race at a good tempo and this would provide MARVEL JOY with the opportunity to shift in behind those horses from barrier 8. He said however that wearing a visor for the first occasion today, MARVEL JOY did not step away from the barriers well and was further back in the field immediately after the start than had been anticipated. He said he was then reluctant to ride his mount forward as he would have had to make some use of the horse to overcome its poor beginning and he was also concerned that MARVEL JOY may not settle with the head gear applied after having to be ridden along. He said for this reason he elected to steady MARVEL JOY and shift across to race on the rail which resulted in the horse being further back in the field than had been intended.
A veterinary inspection of YOUNG EMPIRE immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, YOUNG EMPIRE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
STARLIT KNIGHT and UNIVERSAL GO GO were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (129) TSING LUNG TAU HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

GOOD CHOICE AHEAD was withdrawn on 26.10.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right fore tendon injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MANFUL STAR (C Murray). Before being allowed to race again, GOOD CHOICE AHEAD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SHINING ON began only fairly.
From a wide barrier, KA YING BRILLIANCE was steadied to obtain cover.
Shortly after the start, LONDON MASTER was also steadied to obtain a position with cover.
Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, PEACE N PROSPERITY momentarily raced tight inside OSCAR MAGIC.
Passing the 900 Metres, SHINING ON was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of VICTORIOUS LEADER.
After the 700 Metres, ALL GREAT FRIENDS was left racing wide and without cover.
NICE FANDANGO lay out in the middle stages, particularly rounding the Home Turn.
NORDIC WARRIOR made the turn near the 500 Metres awkwardly. PEACE N PROSPERITY, which was following, was steadied away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Passing the 200 Metres, DIAMOND LEGEND shifted out and was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of LONDON MASTER.
Throughout the race, MONEYMORE travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, G van Niekerk (PEACE N PROSPERITY) stated that it was decided to ride the horse more conservatively having regard to its wide barrier draw and the fact that there appeared to be good pace engaged in the race. He said it was felt that if PEACE N PROSPERITY was ridden along to obtain a forward positon as had been the case in the past, the horse may be left racing wide and without cover and it was also felt that shifting across behind runners and possibly improving his position on the rail would provide PEACE N PROSPERITY with the best opportunity to finish off the race.
A veterinary inspection of DIAMOND LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
NICE FANDANGO, NORDIC WARRIOR and LONDON MASTER were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (130) TSING YI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

Apprentice C Wong (TRAVEL FIRST) was fined $2,000 for presenting himself to initially weigh out without a girth.
DARING HEART began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start.
YOU HAVE MY WORD began only fairly.
From a wide barrier, CLEAR CHOICE was shifted across behind runners soon after the start.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, ENJOY LIFE, which had been ridden along, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORMULA GALORE (C Y Ho) which, after initially being clear of ENJOY LIFE to shift in, then steadied to obtain a position behind ASSOCIATION FANS which resulted in ENJOY LIFE being very awkwardly placed close to the heels of FORMULA GALORE. C Y Ho was advised that although he had been initially clear of ENJOY LIFE to commence shifting in, by the time FORMULA GALORE was in a position to cross that horse, the margin between the two horses had decreased. He was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting ground.
Passing the 600 Metres, CLEAR CHOICE was momentarily awkwardly placed between DISTRICT EXPRESS and YOU HAVE MY WORD which shifted in marginally. YOU HAVE MY WORD and DISTRICT EXPRESS then bumped making the turn near the 550 Metres.
Passing the 500 Metres, FLYING QUEST, which was endeavouring to shift to the outside of CHAPARRAL STAR, became unbalanced when awkwardly placed outside that horse which got its head on the side and shifted out. ASSOCIATION FANS, which was racing to the outside of FLYING QUEST, was hampered in consequence.
Passing the 400 Metres, FLYING QUEST was unable to improve when racing tight between CHAPARRAL STAR and DISTRICT EXPRESS which shifted in marginally after coming under pressure.
Passing the 300 Metres, ASSOCIATION FANS was very awkwardly placed close to the heels of DISTRICT EXPRESS which was commencing to give ground as ASSOCIATION FANS was reluctant to shift to the outside of that horse to obtain clear running.
Passing the 100 Metres, YOU HAVE MY WORD shifted in abruptly under pressure.
Over the concluding stages, CLEAR CHOICE raced tight inside FORMULA GALORE which shifted in under pressure.
Following the race, C Murray reported that in the Straight DISTRICT EXPRESS made an abnormal breathing noise. A veterinary inspection of DISTRICT EXPRESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
When questioned, G van Niekerk (YOU HAVE MY WORD) stated that after shifting across behind runners in the early stages, YOU HAVE MY WORD was at the tail of the field passing the 1200 Metres when the race was being run at a good tempo. He said after the 1000 Metres the tempo of the race continued to be good and as he did not want YOU HAVE MY WORD to be too far out of its ground, he felt that there may be an opportunity to commence improving his position near the 900 Metres to get closer to the leaders. He said he had also hoped that because the race was being run at a good tempo, it may allow an opportunity for YOU HAVE MY WORD to get some cover further along the Back Straight which would not give YOU HAVE MY WORD so much to do which would be the case if he remained racing at the rear of the field. He said after shifting his horse out near the 900 Metres and commencing to improve around CLEAR CHOICE, that horse was shifted to the outside of TRUE GRIT which resulted in YOU HAVE MY WORD racing very wide and having to be ridden along in an attempt to clear CLEAR CHOICE and obtain a position closer to the rail. He said it was not until near the 600 Metres that he was able to shift in in front of CLEAR CHOICE, however, at this time DISTRICT EXPRESS had been shifted to the outside of TRAVEL FIRST which resulted in YOU HAVE MY WORD having to continue to race in a four wide position without cover. G van Niekerk was advised that, in the opinion of the Stewards, he had erred in attempting to improve his position after the 900 Metres when the race was being run at a good tempo. He was further advised that when CLEAR CHOICE shifted out, it would have been in the best interests of YOU HAVE MY WORD to obtain a trailing position behind that horse rather than pressing forward on a horse that was having its first run this season. He was further advised to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so that they can finish off their races as best as they are able in the circumstances.
When questioned regarding his riding of CLEAR CHOICE after the 1000 Metres, Apprentice H T Mo stated that he had been mindful that in some of the earlier races horses had been able to be successful when improving their position along the Back Straight. He said after the 1000 Metres he was following TRUE GRIT and near the 900 Metres he became aware that YOU HAVE MY WORD was commencing to improve its position around CLEAR CHOICE. He said rather than allow that horse to improve forward of CLEAR CHOICE, he elected to shift CLEAR CHOICE to the outside of TRUE GRIT and improve his position with YOU HAVE MY WORD. He said this resulted in him having to ride the horse along for some distance before he had no alternative other than to allow YOU HAVE MY WORD to cross CLEAR CHOICE near the 600 Metres after which he obtained a trailing position behind that horse. Mr C S Shum, the trainer of CLEAR CHOICE, informed the Stewards that he had instructed Apprentice Mo to shift CLEAR CHOICE across behind runners in the early stages due to the wide barrier. He said at its most recent start when ridden in a forward position, CLEAR CHOICE did not finish off its race and he therefore believed it would be in the best interests of the horse for it to be ridden quietly today. He said he instructed Apprentice Mo to improve his position along the Back Straight in the event that the race was being run at a slow tempo. He added if it was other than a slow tempo he instructed Apprentice Mo to ride CLEAR CHOICE quietly until the 600 Metres at which time to commence to improve his position. Mr Shum was advised that his explanation had been accepted. Apprentice Mo was advised that the Stewards had previously spoken to him for having ridden a horse in a similar manner. He was placed on notice and advised that the Stewards considered his riding of CLEAR CHOICE, particularly given the instructions that he was given, to be of concern and not up to the standard expected of a rider in Hong Kong. He was severely reprimanded and advised that he must, wherever appropriate circumstances permit, ride his mounts to instructions and to be aware of the circumstances of a race when positioning his mounts. Apprentice Mo was also severely reprimanded for the standard of the evidence that he provided during this inquiry.
A veterinary inspection of ENJOY LIFE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of ASSOCIATION FANS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
FLYING QUEST and CHAPARRAL STAR were sent for sampling.

Also from the outside barrier, LONDON CITY was steadied and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover in the early stages.
Making the turn after the 1000 Metres, SUPER LUCKY raced tight inside SEVENTY SEVENTY which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SHARPMIND before racing tight inside that horse.

Passing the 500 Metres, LAMAROSA and SHARPMIND raced tight.
C Y Ho (SEVENTY SEVENTY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of SHARPMIND, causing that horse to be unnecessarily crowded for room and to lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled. C Y Ho was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 25 November 2018 and to expire on Thursday, 29 November 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, C Y Ho was fined $20,000.
Passing the 100 Metres, WINNING SUPREME raced tight inside THE CREATETH.
In the Straight, THE CREATETH got its head on the side and lay in under pressure.
When questioned, M L Yeung (GOLDEN GLORY) stated that he was asked to ride the horse in a forward position by the owner of the horse. He said this request was made in the presence of Mr K H Ting, the trainer of GOLDEN GLORY. He said it was explained to him by the owner that GOLDEN GLORY had been successful last season when being ridden from a wide barrier over the course and distance and it was hoped that GOLDEN GLORY would be able to obtain a more forward position today given that the horse had been successful when ridden in this manner previously. Mr Ting confirmed that it was at the owner’s request that GOLDEN GLORY should be ridden in a forward position. He said he anticipated that there was a considerable pace in today’s race and, from a wide barrier, he had initially intended for GOLDEN GLORY to be ridden quietly, however, when the owner had insisted that the horse should be ridden in a similar manner when it was successful last season, he complied with the owner’s wishes. He added that after the race he had subsequently spoken to the owner and given that GOLDEN GLORY had weakened after having to travel wide and without cover throughout the race, it would be the intention for the horse to be ridden more patiently if it were to draw a wide barrier.
After the race, C Y Ho reported that after being crowded on jumping, SEVENTY SEVENTY travelled only fairly before racing tight inside SHARPMIND making the turn near the 1000 Metres. He said, in his opinion, SEVENTY SEVENTY was not able to balance up properly as a result of these incidents and because of this did not finish off the race as well as it did at its last start when successful. A veterinary inspection of SEVENTY SEVENTY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, THE CREATETH was noted to be coughing. An endoscopic examination of THE CREATETH found the horse to have a substantial amount of blood in its trachea. Before being allowed to race again, THE CREATETH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SHARPMIND immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SHARPMIND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SEVENTY SEVENTY, KHAKI and DOLLAR REWARD were sent for sampling.
<29/10/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>SHARPMIND, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time an endoscopic examination of the horse showed a substantial amount of blood in its trachea. SHARPMIND was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer P F Yiu this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, SHARPMIND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.

SUN TOUCH knuckled over at the start.
From the outside barriers, ALL BEST FRIENDS, TENNESSEE BOSS and MERRYGOWIN were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
When being shifted across behind runners, ALL BEST FRIENDS was bumped near the 1150 Metres by EIGHTY EIGHTY which was taken out by BREEDERS’ STAR.
Near the 1050 Metres, PACKING MIRACLE became unbalanced of its own accord and then making the turn near the 1000 Metres got its head on the side and hung out across the heels of IRON BOY, resulting in BACK IN BLACK being checked when crowded for room inside GREEN LUCK. PACKING MIRACLE then continued to shift out, resulting in GREEN LUCK being taken out towards the heels of EIGHTY EIGHTY and also being hampered. The racing manners of PACKING MIRACLE were considered to be unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PACKING MIRACLE will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial around a bend.
Near the 750 Metres, GREEN LUCK got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly when awkwardly placed close to the heels of EIGHTY EIGHTY. In this incident, PACKING MIRACLE was momentarily inconvenienced.

Throughout the race, SEVEN HEAVENS travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.
When questioned, Apprentice H T Mo (TURIN REDSTAR) stated that after obtaining a position outside the leader CIRCUIT GLORY, he was comfortable to race in that position. He said however when SEVEN HEAVENS improved around TURIN REDSTAR after the 1200 Metres, he was equally comfortable to let that horse cross and obtain a trailing position behind it. He said however that TURIN REDSTAR was racing keenly at this time and he would have had to heavily restrain the horse to allow SEVEN HEAVENS to obtain a position forward of TURIN REDSTAR. He added rather than fight against his mount, he allowed TURIN REDSTAR to maintain its positon outside CIRCUIT GLORY.
When questioned regarding the performance of CIRCUIT GLORY, U Rispoli stated that he had to make some use of the horse over a prolonged distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position as he was instructed. He said after this both TURIN REDSTAR and SEVEN HEAVENS improved to the outside of CIRCUIT GLORY which resulted in his mount not being able to relax as he had hoped. He said because of these factors, CIRCUIT GLORY was then not being able to finish off its race albeit, in his opinion, the horse was still disappointing in today’s race. A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT GLORY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JADE FORTUNE and TURIN REDSTAR were sent for sampling.

A short distance later, THE JUDGE and THUNDER STOMP were awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER FORM which shifted in. G van Niekerk was advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that THUNDER STOMP had initially shifted away from SUPER FORM which created the crowding to THE JUDGE, nonetheless he must ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners on his inside in similar circumstances.
Approaching the 900 Metres, SUPER FORM shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY. THE JUDGE, which was following SUPER FORM and travelling keenly, improved into tight running inside SUPER FORM where there was insufficient room which resulted in THE JUDGE having to be severely checked when SUPER FORM shifted back in marginally when it continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY. H N Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 14 November 2018 and to expire on Monday, 19 November 2018 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Wong’s good race riding record.
When ULTIMATE GLORY was severely checked approaching the 100 Metres, SUPER FORM, which remained badly unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters, shifted in abruptly, resulting in THUNDER STOMP, which was also unbalanced, being checked when crowded for room between SUPER FORM and MY ALLY.
