Racing Incident Report

GOOD GOOD began awkwardly and lost ground at the start. X-SPEED began awkwardly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of ISLAND SPIRIT which shifted out after being bumped by GREAT IDEA which began awkwardly and shifted out. Shortly after the start, SUPER BALL was checked when crowded for room between ISLAND SPIRIT which shifted out and BEING FAMOUS which was carried in by HEKYLL N' JYDE. At the 500 Metres, STRAIGHT WIN became unbalanced, shifted out and was checked away from the heels of X-SPEED. GOOD GOOD and SUPER BALL, which were following, were steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of STRAIGHT WIN. Throughout the race, GREAT IDEA hung out and proved difficult to ride. Also throughout the race, MELOS hung in and near the 400 Metres became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ISLAND SPIRIT which was giving ground. The Stewards advised R Fradd that whilst GREAT IDEA was hanging out and his riding over the concluding stages did not in their opinion affect his finishing position, he should wherever possible ensure that he rides his mounts out to the end of the race at least hands and heels. A Delpech (GRASS HOPPER) explained at the horse's first race start it raced in a forward position, proved difficult to settle and failed to finish the race off. He said following this GRASS HOPPER was ridden quietly with cover in a barrier trial and it closed the trial off nicely, therefore today he had been instructed if possible to ensure he obtained cover. He said after beginning well, in order to follow his instructions, at about the 900 Metres he steadied GRASS HOPPER to allow FIFTY FIFTY to cross him so as to obtain cover behind that horse. He added despite being ridden with cover GRASS HOPPER again failed to close the race off today. STRAIGHT WIN was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of STRAIGHT WIN after the race did not show any significant findings. HEKYLL N' JYDE, FIFTY FIFTY and PRECIOUS MOMENTS were sent for sampling. After the race, SUPER BALL was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse had blood present at the left nostril, however, an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clear and therefore the horse was not deemed to be a bleeder. Also after the race, it was noted MELOS had lost its left front plate.
