Racing Incident Report

CUPID and DOUBLE PLEASURE were slow to begin. MILITARY OPTION began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. X-SPEED bounded in the air at the start and shortly afterwards came into contact with FANTASTIC WIN. As the gates opened, LONGMARK put its head down, then began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and consequently was slow to begin. After this, LONGMARK was ridden to go forward, however, raced three wide and without cover, then for the major part of the race hung out and in the Straight gave ground. Near the 1300 Metres, CUPID was momentarily steadied when crowded for room inside DOUBLE PLEASURE which was carried in slightly by FLYING KENNY. Near the 1200 Metres, X-SPEED got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MAGIC TOUCH. Just prior to straightening, X-SPEED was awkwardly placed close to the heels of LONGMARK which was giving ground, then on straightening was steadied to avoid the heels of LONGMARK which was carried out slightly by MILITARY OPTION. After the 250 Metres, JUST IN TIME, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied to avoid the heels of FANTASTIC WIN (D Whyte) which shifted out when not properly clear. D Whyte was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. A Marcus (REWARD) said at no stage of tonight's race did the horse stride out and was most disappointing. He said the horse carried its head high throughout, however, after the race did not feel sore. REWARD was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, REWARD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination showed REWARD to be a "roarer". The performance of REWARD was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, REWARD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LONGMARK and X-SPEED were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of LONGMARK after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, X-SPEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed that there was mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, X-SPEED will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FANTASTIC WIN and FLYING KENNY were sent for sampling.
