Racing Incident Report

SEA TREASURE was withdrawn on 11.6.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter CHARIOT OF WEI HAI (F Coetzee). Before being allowed to race again, SEA TREASURE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. STAR OF NORTHERN bounded in the air when the gates opened and lost ground. STAR PRODIGY began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. From a gate towards the outside, BAUHINIA was immediately steadied and shifted across behind runners to a position on the fence but near the rear. TUSITALA made the turn near the 1400 Metres awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of X-SPEED. ESPRIT D'OR, which was following TUSITALA, was steadied which in turn caused inconvenience to BAUHINIA which was also steadied. After this, TUSITALA continued to hang out, then making the turn at the 700 Metres hung out badly and was checked away from the heels of ESPRIT D'OR. TUSITALA was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TUSITALA after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of TUSITALA was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, TUSITALA will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. At the 1400 Metres, STAR PRODIGY, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of EL PRADO STAR. In the early and middle stages, MODERN PROSPECT proved difficult to settle. Near the 300 Metres, STAR OF NORTHERN was steadied and shifted out to obtain clear running. Near the 100 Metres, ARROGANCE, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room inside MODERN PROSPECT which was carried in by MADE IN HONGKONG (L Innes) which shifted ground. L Innes was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount. In the Straight, MADE IN HONGKONG hung in. When questioned regarding the improved performance of MADE IN HONGKONG today, Trainer P O'Sullivan said he believed the horse benefited from its quick back up from Wednesday night. He said on that occasion MADE IN HONGKONG when racing down a class was required to carry a large weight and over the 2200 Metres was difficult to settle and raced without cover for a significant part of the race. He said in the past MADE IN HONGKONG on a number of occasions showed itself to be difficult to settle and raced intractably. He said in today's race MADE IN HONGKONG relaxed and in his opinion this was a major reason for the horse's improved performance. He did add in the past MADE IN HONGKONG had shown its best form when racing on the All Weather surface. When questioned regarding the poor performance of ESPRIT D'OR, D Whyte was unable to offer an explanation. He said ESPRIT D'OR did not travel well in the run until near the 800 Metres when it picked the bit up and made ground on the inside until about the 600 Metres when it again came off the bit. He said in the Straight ESPRIT D'OR did not respond to his riding and gave ground. ESPRIT D'OR was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, ESPRIT D'OR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, ESPRIT D'OR will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MADE IN HONGKONG and BAUHINIA were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FLORAL DANCER was lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, FLORAL DANCER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 13 June 2005)
ESPRIT D'OR
ESPRIT D'OR, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. ESPRIT D'OR was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D E Ferraris this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse was lame in the left front leg. As previously advised, ESPRIT D'OR will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
TUSITALA
TUSITALA, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. TUSITALA was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D Oughton this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be cut and bruised over the left hind cannon. TUSITALA will now be subjected to an official veterinary examination in addition to an official barrier trial around a bend before being allowed to race again.
