Racing Incident Report
ROCKET WIN was a little slow to begin, then shortly afterwards was crowded for room between STRIKE TO WIN and WINNING SMILE which shifted in. MAVERICK began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ASSET PLAY which as a result became unbalanced. On jumping, ARROGANCE blundered. Shortly after the start, THE LAVISH LAD and JUSTINIAN were crowded for room between THAT'S IT and ONLY YOU which shifted out away from ARROGANCE. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, MAVERICK was crowded for room inside SUNDAY DELIGHT. Making the Home Turn, GOOD TRIO was unable to improve when racing behind SUNDAY DELIGHT. On straightening, WINNING SMILE was steadied away from the heels of ROCKET WIN. Shortly after straightening, ONLY YOU was steadied and shifted out to find clear running. In the Straight, THAT'S IT hung in. Throughout the race, SHINING DAY and STRIKE TO WIN raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. The performance of THE LAVISH LAD, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, THE LAVISH LAD will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. C Brown (MAVERICK) said he had been riding the horse in its work leading into today's race and in his opinion this work had been good. He said at its last start MAVERICK got back and raced well despite facing the kickback. He said however today MAVERICK at no stage travelled comfortably and was under pressure before the 600 Metres. He said he was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of MAVERICK. MAVERICK was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of MAVERICK after the race did not show any significant findings. ARROGANCE and ASSET PLAY were sent for sampling.
