Racing Incident Report

ESPRIT D'OR began awkwardly. On jumping, MAGIC TEMPLE shifted in and bumped SPARKLE. Also on jumping, RED WINE HONEY and WINNING SMILE bumped. For some distance after this, RED WINE HONEY was buffeted between WINNING SMILE and MA WAN MIRACLE. Near the 1600 Metres, RED WINE HONEY was then checked when crowded for room between these runners as a result of MA WAN MIRACLE shifting out and WINNING SMILE being carried in by SEA TREASURE. No action was taken. Passing the winning post on the first occasion, MA WAN MIRACLE became unbalanced when crowded for room between TEMMOKU and WINNING SMILE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SEA TREASURE. At the 1300 Metres, BUDDIES POWER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of X-SPEED. In the early stages, WINNING SMILE travelled wide and without cover, then prior to the 1000 Metres was allowed to stride forward to race outside the lead. Near the 400 Metres, MADE IN HONGKONG was checked when crowded for room between SPARKLE and BUDDIES POWER which at this time commenced to give ground. ESPRIT D'OR, which was following MADE IN HONGKONG, was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of MADE IN HONGKONG. After the 200 Metres, GOLD DIGGER got its head on the side and shifted out. C Soumillon (ONLY YOU) explained when he rode the horse at its last start from barrier 10, he had been instructed to obtain a position with cover if possible in front of midfield. He said because of the manner in which the race was run, ONLY YOU was unable to obtain cover, did not relax and consequently did not finish the race off. He said because of this today from the outside barrier he had been instructed to ride the horse back in the field to ensure it had cover to allow the opportunity to close the race off. He said from the start he took ONLY YOU back, however, when MAGIC TEMPLE which had drawn to his inside was also taken back, he was not able to shift straight to the fence, but had to steady, following MAGIC TEMPLE across. He said after this he allowed MAGIC TEMPLE to go forward of him and shifted to the fence, however, as a consequence he was further out of his ground than he would have liked. He said in the Straight ONLY YOU finished the race off strongly ridden in this manner today. He added in his opinion ONLY YOU is best suited when racing with cover and in future if the horse drew a more favourable barrier it would be preferential to have the horse in a more forward position. G Mossé (MAGIC TEMPLE) said from a wide barrier he had been instructed to ride the horse at the rear and then commence to improve his position after leaving the Back Straight. He said at the 700 Metres he was following TEMMOKU and had SEA TREASURE racing forward of him to his outside, he therefore commenced to track up behind TEMMOKU and when that horse shifted out after the 600 Metres, he endeavoured to improve towards its inside. He said as this occurred RED WINE HONEY commenced to shift away from the fence, resulting in him being unable to improve, as a consequence being held up for running between these horses and inside the heels of TEMMOKU. He said making the Home Turn he continued to travel in this position as SEA TREASURE remained racing on his outside and he was hopeful TEMMOKU would go forward in the early part of the Straight which would provide him with clear running, however, when this did not occur MAGIC TEMPLE continued to be held up after straightening for some distance inside the heels of TEMMOKU and outside RED WINE HONEY. He said at the 300 Metres clear running presented itself between those horses and he immediately commenced to ride along with MAGIC TEMPLE closing the race off strongly. MAGIC TEMPLE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of MAGIC TEMPLE after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING SMILE, GOLD DIGGER and MADE IN HONGKONG were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported MADE IN HONGKONG had spread its right front plate.
