Racing Incident Report

CHERISHED, which was fractious in its stall, was slow to begin. BROWN BEAUTY and THREE CLUBS were slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, BARRACUDA failed to muster speed and then was taken across behind runners. J Castellano (X-SPEED) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of PIONERO, causing that horse to lost its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, the Stewards believed it appropriate for Jockey Castellano's licence to ride in races be suspended until Wednesday 27 December 2006 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after Tuesday 19 December 2006. Over the final 150 Metres, PIONERO did not obtain clear running and as a consequence was not tested. For some distance after the 100 Metres, BROWN BEAUTY was steadied when unable to obtain clear running between GREEN IN BLUE and SPECIFIC SORCEROR which itself was held up and unable to obtain clear running over about the last 150 Metres. As a consequence, SPECIFIC SORCEROR was not fully tested. When questioned regarding the poor performance of CHERISHED, D McDonogh said after becoming fractious in the gates, the horse at no stage travelled comfortably. He said he had to continually niggle at CHERISHED in an endeavour to have it hold its position in the run and then it failed to run on in the Straight. BARRACUDA and CHERISHED were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BARRACUDA and CHERISHED after the race did not show any significant findings. BROWN BEAUTY, HARRY HARRY and SILVER MARK were sent for sampling.
