Racing Incident Report
VIVA PATACA was a little slow to begin and was then bumped by CALIFORNIA BISHOP which shifted in. From the outside gate, with the intention of being ridden quietly, CRYSTAL was immediately steadied and taken back across behind runners. From on straightening until near the 300 Metres, DASHING THUNDER was held up and unable to improve behind THISTLE KING and outside ABLE STANDARD. Near the 200 Metres, STRONG SUN, COME SEE YOU and SUPER WONGCHOY were momentarily crowded for room inside ABLE STANDARD which was giving ground. In the Straight, CALIFORNIA BISHOP hung out. S Sanders (HAPPY PARTNERS) explained as the horse has been out of form when being ridden in a forward position, he was today instructed to settle the horse near the rear in the hope that it would close the race off. He said HAPPY PARTNERS began well, he immediately restrained the horse in an endeavour to obtain a position with cover, however, HAPPY PARTNERS over-raced, on a number of occasions got its head up whilst racing ungenerously and because of this he was not able to obtain cover and remained racing wide throughout. He said in the Straight HAPPY PARTNERS did not finish the race off. HAPPY PARTNERS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY PARTNERS after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of HAPPY PARTNERS, which tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY PARTNERS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. B Prebble (STRONG SUN) said he had been instructed to ride the horse from the rear. He said because of these instructions he allowed STRONG SUN to drop back in the early stages to race near the rear. He said travelling along the Back Straight he at all times had an opportunity to improve his position to race behind DASHING THUNDER and to the inside of SUPER WONGCHOY, however, in his opinion the riding instructions issued to him were specific and to have improved his position at that stage would have been disregarding the instructions he was issued. The Stewards will afford Mr J Moore, trainer of HAPPY PARTNERS and STRONG SUN, an opportunity to explain the riding instructions for these horses. BOOMING CITY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BOOMING CITY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BOOMING CITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THISTLE KING, VIVA PATACA and DASHING THUNDER were sent for sampling.
