Racing Incident Report

Whilst parading, PRONOUNCED HONOUR became very fractious and reared on a number of occasions, resulting in its rider, O Doleuze, being dislodged. Before being permitted to race again, PRONOUNCED HONOUR will be required to undergo a satisfactory Parade Ring test.
From a wide barrier, YOUNG HAPPY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Shortly after the start, TELECOM PRINCE was bumped by PRONOUNCED HONOUR which shifted out after being bumped by FLYING KEEPER which was slow to begin.
On a number of occasions in the early stages, SHANGHAI PIONEER got its head up when being steadied to obtain a position with cover.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, AMAZING ALWAYS was hampered and lost ground when steadied away from the heels of PRONOUNCED HONOUR which commenced to make the first turn awkwardly and shifted out.
After the 1000 Metres, SHANGHAI PIONEER proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions. Then passing the 900 Metres, SHANGHAI PIONEER, which continued to prove difficult to settle, was checked when crowded for room inside WINSOME (T Angland) which shifted in marginally. T Angland was advised that whilst SHANGHAI PIONEER’s racing manners contributed significantly to this incident, nonetheless he must ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in future. YOUNG HAPPY, which was following SHANGHAI PIONEER, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
After the 900 Metres, PURE VICTORY and PRONOUNCED HONOUR both became unbalanced after bumping.
Over the final 200 Metres, DIAMOND ANGEL shifted out appreciably under pressure.
Throughout the race, PURE VICTORY travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, T Angland stated that, from barrier 12, he had been asked to position WINSOME in about midfield if possible. He said although WINSOME began very well, he immediately noticed that SERENDIPITY was being aggressively ridden along to his inside to take up a forward position. He said although it was available to him to take up a forward position when WINSOME began as well as it did, from barrier 12 and carrying top weight of 133 lbs, he felt he would have had to make too much use of the horse to cross SERENDIPITY given the manner in which it was being ridden at that time. He added making the first turn he attempted to obtain a position with cover behind that horse, however, a number of runners were positioned to his inside and he was consequently left racing wide. He said when SERENDIPITY crossed SPLENDID GUY approaching the 700 Metres, he was reluctant to continue to press forward of PURE VICTORY and obtain a position racing three wide rather than four wide given that he had steadied WINSOME in the early stages and that the turn near the 600 Metres was approaching. T Angland went on to say that after racing wide and without cover, WINSOME came under pressure prior to the 500 Metres and then gave ground noticeably rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of WINSOME immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SPLENDID GUY at the request of Trainer A T Millard. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SPLENDID GUY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of SHANGHAI PIONEER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SHANGHAI PIONEER, DIAMOND ANGEL and YOUNG SUPREME were sent for sampling.
