Racing Incident Report
Shortly after the start, MAKE IT and GREAT RUN bumped, resulting in GREAT RUN being awkwardly placed inside the heels of DEMON DEMON.
From the outside barriers, TIME WINNER, MONEY CAFE and NOBODY BUT YOU were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.
Making the turn after the 600 Metres, LORD DRAGON was checked when crowded for room inside GOLD TALENT which was taken in by PLAIN BLUE BANNER (N Callan) which got its head on the side and shifted in. LORD DRAGON then for some distance raced tight inside GOLD TALENT and near the 500 Metres was steadied when again crowded for room. NOBODY BUT YOU, which was following LORD DRAGON, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. N Callan was severely reprimanded and advised that whilst the Stewards accepted that PLAIN BLUE BANNER had not shifted a great deal of ground and that he had made endeavours to shift his horse out to relieve the tightening to runners on his inside, nonetheless in similar circumstances he would be expected to make every endeavour to prevent his mount from shifting ground.
HAPPY CHAMPION was held up for clear running from passing the 200 Metres until approaching 100 Metres at which time the horse was shifted to the outside of GREAT RUN to obtain clear running. LORD DRAGON, which was following HAPPY CHAMPION, was also held up for clear running approaching and passing the 150 Metres.
Near the 50 Metres, MONEY CAFE was shifted out away from the heels of PLAIN BLUE BANNER which shifted ground marginally.
Passing the 50 Metres, DEMON DEMON (J Moreira) shifted in under pressure and inconvenienced JADE PIPPO, resulting in J Moreira having to stop riding and straighten his mount.
TIME WINNER hung in throughout the race.
J Moreira (DEMON DEMON) was fined $3,000 for improper use of the whip in that he raised weal marks over the horse’s right hindquarter.
GREAT RUN and DEMON DEMON were sent for sampling.
