Racing Incident Report

When proceeding to the Start, LYRIC ACE threw its head up, resulting in its rider, C Y Ho, being struck on the lip. C Y Ho was attended to by the Club’s medical officers and passed fit to fulfil his riding engagement on LYRIC ACE. After the race, C Y Ho was stood down from his remaining riding engagements by the Club’s medical officers.
On arrival at the Start, SCARBOROUGH FAIR, which was fractious in the Parade Ring and kicked out, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
GLOBE TROTTER began very awkwardly and lost ground.
RED SUN began awkwardly.
MASSIVE MOVE shifted out at the start and bumped LYRIC ACE, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
From the outside barrier, SCARBOROUGH FAIR was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Despite being ridden along, REWARDING FLYER failed to muster early speed and was shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier shortly after the start.
MASSIVE MOVE lay out making the first turn after the 600 Metres.
Near the 450 Metres, SCARBOROUGH FAIR was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of RED SUN when being shifted to the outside of that horse.
A veterinary inspection of DOUBLE DOUBLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. As this was the second time within three starts that DOUBLE DOUBLE had finished tailed out, the Stewards ruled that that horse must perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that when left racing wide and without cover after the 700 Metres, PADDINGTON, which was having just its second race start, lay out making the first turn. He said, in his opinion, the fact that the horse was required to travel wide and without cover and its inexperience were the principal factors behind the horse’s disappointing performance. A veterinary inspection of PADDINGTON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
B Prebble reported that after the 500 Metres BEAR CHUM felt “flat” and did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of BEAR CHUM immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, BEAR CHUM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
PADDINGTON, EXCEL ONESELF and BEAUTY CONNECTION were sent for sampling.
<3/2/2017 Additional Veterinary Report>DOUBLE DOUBLE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. DOUBLE DOUBLE was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer T K Ng this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. As previously advised, DOUBLE DOUBLE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a series of consecutive barrier trials and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being allowed to race again.
