Racing Incident Report

CLEVER SPIRIT began awkwardly and lost ground.
BOSSIEE was slow to begin.
LE PANACHE began only fairly.
From the outside barrier, DIAMOND MYSTERIOUS was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 600 Metres, WINNING CONTROLLER was steadied away from the heels of MR ORIOLE which shifted in marginally when racing tight inside VITAL SPRING. NOBLE DE BOY, which was following, shifted out away from the heels of WINNING CONTROLLER, resulting in BOSSIEE momentarily racing tight inside ADMIRABLE.
Near the 450 Metres, MR ORIOLE broke down in the left front leg and fell, resulting in its rider, N Rawiller, being dislodged. NOBLE DE BOY, which was following, was severely checked in consequence, resulting in its rider, K Teetan, being dislodged. CLEVER SPIRIT was unable to avoid the fallen MR ORIOLE and blundered, resulting in its rider, C Y Ho, also being dislodged. WINNING CONTROLLER, which was following MR ORIOLE, was severely checked in consequence. Also badly hampered in this incident was BOSSIEE which blundered when unable to avoid the fallen MR ORIOLE. LE PANACHE and DIAMOND MYSTERIOUS were also badly hampered in consequence. After this incident, K Teetan was examined by the Club’s doctors and passed fit to fulfil his remaining race riding engagements. N Rawiller and C Y Ho were also examined by the Club’s doctors and stood down from their remaining race riding engagements.
Throughout the race, VITAL SPRING travelled wide and without cover.
The Stewards opened and immediately adjourned an inquiry into the reason for NOBLE DE BOY being checked after the 1100 Metres. Further, the Stewards opened and immediately adjourned an inquiry into the reason for WINNING CONTROLLER and MR ORIOLE being hampered near the 1050 Metres. These inquiries were adjourned due to N Rawiller, the rider of MR ORIOLE, being unable to be present to give evidence after being transported to hospital.
A veterinary inspection of NOBLE DE BOY immediately following the race found that horse to be a “roarer”.
A veterinary inspection of WINNING CONTROLLER, CLEVER SPIRIT and BOSSIEE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LONDON CITY and MULTIGOGO were sent for sampling. Samples were also taken from MR ORIOLE.
<24/5/2017 Adjourned Inquiries – 17 April 2017 Sha Tin Racemeeting – Race 4 (574)>
The Stewards tonight concluded two inquiries which were adjourned due to Jockey N Rawiller having to be transported to hospital as a result of a fall from MR ORIOLE rounding the Home Turn.

N Rawiller pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1100 Metres he permitted MR ORIOLE to shift in when not clear of WINNING CONTROLLER, resulting in that horse being taken in onto NOBLE DE BOY which was severely checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. In the unique circumstances of this case, the Stewards, having regard to the fact that Jockey Rawiller has not ridden since this racemeeting and is not likely to resume race riding in the immediate future, believed it appropriate for him to be severely reprimanded rather than any period of suspension or monetary penalty being imposed. N Rawiller was however advised that this was the 7th occasion during this current season that he had breached the careless riding Rule and he was further advised that this aspect of his riding would need to be addressed should it be that he is granted a licence to ride by the Club next season.

A short distance after this incident near the 1050 Metres, as N Rawiller attempted to direct MR ORIOLE out to relieve the tightening to WINNING CONTROLLER and NOBLE DE BOY, MR ORIOLE had to be steadied away from the heels of MULTIGOGO (M Chadwick) which had shifted in to take up the room left as a result of MR ORIOLE shifting inwards. M Chadwick was advised that whilst the circumstances leading up to this incident had been beyond his control, nonetheless he was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he is properly clear of other runners when shifting ground.
