Racing Incident Report
SUNNY DRAGON lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and lost ground.
Shortly after the start, MALMSTEEN and MORETHANLUCKY bumped.
From wide barriers, GRANITE BELT, WAYFOONG VINNIE and PEARL WARM WARM were all steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
When being steadied to obtain cover approaching the 1100 Metres, MALMSTEEN got its head up on a number of occasions.
Passing the 1000 Metres, MALMSTEEN commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of MORETHANLUKCY.
For a considerable distance in the middle stages, GRANITE BELT hung in and proved difficult to ride.
BREEDERS’ STAR travelled wide and without cover until near the 500 Metres.
Passing the 300 Metres, LOTUS BREEZE raced tight inside BREEDERS’ STAR which shifted in marginally.
Near the 250 Metres, MALMSTEEN was checked away from the heels of TRAVEL DATUK which, when improving into tight running between MALMSTEEN and MORETHANLUCKY, was taken out by MORETHANLUCKY which got its head on the side and lay out under pressure. As the Stewards were satisfied that TRAVEL DATUK was committed to the run outside of MORETHANLUCKY at the time that horse shifted out, no further action was taken.
Passing the 100 Metres, WAYFOONG VINNIE was shifted in away from the heels of BREEDERS’ STAR to obtain clear running after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.
For the majority of the race, MORETHANLUCKY travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of MALMSTEEN immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, MALMSTEEN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of GRANITE BELT and WAYFOONG VINNIE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WAYFOONG VINNIE, LOTUS BREEZE and TRAVEL DATUK were sent for sampling.
