Racing Incident Report

GREEN CARD was withdrawn on 23.6.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter STARLIT KNIGHT (C Y Ho). Before being allowed to race again, GREEN CARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
Whilst in the saddling stalls, SIR REDALOT had its right front plate refitted. SIR REDALOT was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.
POWER OF PATCH began only fairly and then shortly after the start was checked when crowded for room between CHUNG WAH SPIRIT and DIAMOND DRAGON which shifted in.
TOP LAURELS began only fairly.
GENERAL DINO shifted in at the start and bumped PENANG HALL,
Passing the 1100 Metres, DIAMOND DRAGON got its head up when proving very difficult to settle and shifted out towards the heels of TOP LAURELS which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HIGH AND MIGHTY. For some distance after this, DIAMOND DRAGON continued to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being checked away from the heels of TOP LAURELS.
Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, SIR REDALOT got its head up when being steadied to allow BEAUTY KINGDOM (K C Leung) to shift in when that horse was not properly clear of SIR REDALOT. K C Leung was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances,.
Approaching the 900 Metres, TOP LAURELS proved very difficult to settle and shifted in when being checked away from the heels of HIGH AND MIGHTY.
POWER OF PATCH travelled keenly in the middle stages.
Close to the finishing line, SIR REDALOT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of CHUNG WAH SPIRIT.
When questioned, C Murray stated that it had been intended for WORLD RECORD to be ridden in about a midfield position if possible. He said he was asked not to make too much use of WORLD RECORD in the early stages to be in this position as the horse had on occasions been difficult to settle and got its head up. He said WORLD RECORD began awkwardly and as he was reluctant to ride his mount along to overcome the manner in which the horse began, he elected to shift across behind runners and hoped to improve inside horses on the rail to obtain a midfield position. He said when POWER OF PATCH, which was racing in advance of WORLD RECORD, did not improve its position, this resulted in the horse racing further back in the field than had been intended.
When questioned, Apprentice H N Wong stated that it was explained to him that HEALTHY JOYFUL had over-raced on occasions in its races and therefore he was not to ride the horse along too vigorously as this may result in it over-racing if he was required to steady the horse. He said nonetheless it was felt that from the horse’s inside barrier HEALTHY JOYFUL would be able to take up a forward position without having to be made use of. He said after shifting across to race outside CHUNG WAH SPIRIT in the early stages, HEALTHY JOYFUL came on and off the bridle and did not travel as strongly as he had hoped in the early stages. He said this allowed CHUNG WAH SPIRIT to obtain a margin in advance of HEALTHY JOYFUL. He said he had intended to allow HEALTHY JOYFUL to improve outside CHUNG WAH SPIRIT when MIGHTY MAVERICK improved its position after the 1000 Metres, however, he was unable to make up the required ground prior to CHUNG WAH SPIRIT shifting out which resulted in HEALTHY JOYFUL being taken in to a three wide position without cover. He added whilst the opportunity was there for him to steady HEALTHY JOYFUL and attempt to obtain a trailing position behind CHUNG WAH SPIRIT, he felt that to do this he would have had to restrain HEALTHY JOYFUL and he did not believe that this would be in the horse’s best interests. He said because of this HEALTHY JOYFUL was required to travel wide and without cover and was taken wider still passing the 600 Metres when CHUNG WAH SPIRIT shifted to the outside of MIGHTY MAVERICK. Apprentice Wong was advised that his explanation would be recorded, however, he must ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so as not to cover unnecessary ground.
SIR REDALOT, PENANG HALL and HEALTHY JOYFUL were sent for sampling.
