Racing Incident Report

KING BOUNTIFUL was slow to begin.
Shortly after the start, AMAZING GOLD shifted out and bumped THE JAZZ.
From the outside barrier, PREMIUM CHAMPION was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After travelling a short distance, CASA MASTER was steadied away from the heels of AUTUMN GOLD after being bumped by that horse which shifted in.
When being steadied approaching and passing the winning post on the first occasion, SAVANNAH WIND got its head up and travelled keenly.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, THE JAZZ got its head up on a number of occasions.
For some distance approaching the 1200 Metres, GLENEALY PRIZE got its head up when awkwardly placed behind AUTUMN GOLD and then passing the 1200 Metres was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead.
After the race, M Chadwick (KING BOUNTIFUL) reported that it had been his intention to improve to the outside of GLENEALY PRIZE into clear running between that horse and AUTUMN GOLD early in the Straight, however, when AUTUMN GOLD shifted back in, he was obliged to alter course to the inside of GLENEALY PRIZE to obtain clear running passing the 250 Metres.
When questioned regarding the performance of PREMIUM CHAMPION, Z Purton stated that whilst the horse’s failure to run on in the Straight was disappointing, he felt that there were some reasons for the horse not being able to perform as anticipated. He said after having to race towards the tail of the field, he was obliged to shift out from behind SAVANNAH WIND near the 550 Metres to follow HAPPY ROCKY into the race. He said when he did this, this allowed KING BOUNTIFUL, which had previously raced to the inside of PREMIUM CHAMPION, to obtain inside runs whereas PREMIUM CHAMPION was obliged to cover ground. He added he had to make the Home Turn very wide after shifting to the outside of HAPPY ROCKY and after this the horse did not finish off the race as it had previously when ridden by him. A veterinary inspection of PREMIUM CHAMPION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
CLOUD NINE and THE JAZZ were sent for sampling.
