Racing Incident Report

HAPPY LIFE was withdrawn on 25.12.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (fever) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RED ROSE WARRIOR (N Rawiller). Before being allowed to race again, HAPPY LIFE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
From wide barriers, IMPERIAL GALLANTRY and GENEROUS HEART were steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
After travelling a short distance, BANK ON RED shifted in and bumped ISHVARA.
Approaching the 800 Metres, RED ROSE WARRIOR got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of BANK ON RED (U Rispoli) which shifted in when not properly clear. U Rispoli was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground.
On the turn after the 600 Metres, BULLISH SMART lay in and made contact with OUR HERO, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
In the early part of the Straight, HEROIC GURU was inclined to lay in and was reluctant to shift to the outside of runners.
Near the 250 Metres, RED ROSE WARRIOR shifted out around the heels of TOP LAURELS and attempted to take a run between that horse and BANK ON RED where there was not quite a run. In this incident, BANK ON RED became unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by RED ROSE WARRIOR. N Rawiller was advised to exercise due care in similar circumstances.
Over the final 200 Metres, GENEROUS HEART was held up for clear running and was unable to be tested.
After leaving the 200 Metres, IMPERIAL GALLANTRY and HEROIC GURU lay in under pressure.
Just prior to the finishing line, A Sanna’s (RIGHT CALL) whip was knocked from his grasp by the whip of K Teetan (KIRAM).
When questioned, K Teetan stated that due to the racing pattern tonight where horses racing in a prominent position appeared to be advantaged, he was asked to press forward on KIRAM in the early stages and if possible to find a position with cover behind the pace. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode KIRAM positively in the early stages and approaching the 1200 Metres when caught extremely wide, he initially attempted to steady the horse to have it come back in behind the leading division. He said however that after being ridden along early, KIRAM commenced to over-race and would not settle sufficiently for him to come back behind runners. He added therefore rather than continue to fight KIRAM, he allowed the horse to stride forward before obtaining a position outside the leader RIGHT CALL at the entrance to the Back Straight.
When questioned regarding his riding of ISHVARA in the Straight, M Chadwick stated that in pre-race discussions with Trainer T P Yung, due to the horse’s well documented breathing issues, it was decided to ride ISHVARA patiently and have it build momentum before placing it under full pressure. He said he commenced to urge the horse forward from the 500 Metres as ISHVARA gradually built its momentum rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight. He said when shifted to the outside of BULLISH SMART and placed under full pressure from the 200 Metres, ISHVARA closed off the race satisfactorily. Mr Yung will be interviewed prior to the races on Monday, 1 January 2018.
After the race, N Callan stated that apart from being obliged to race wide and without cover until near the 900 Metres, he was unable to offer any other reason for the disappointing performance of TOP LAURELS. A veterinary inspection of TOP LAURELS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of BANK ON RED and OUR HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
IMPERIAL GALLANTRY and HEROIC GURU were sent for sampling.
<1/1/2018 27 December 2017 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 7 (306)> The Stewards today questioned Trainer T P Yung regarding his instructions in respect of ISHVARA in this race. Mr Yung confirmed that in pre-race discussions with Jockey M Chadwick, ISHVARA’s breathing problems had been discussed in formulating tactics for the horse and it was agreed that ISHVARA should be pressured in such a way from near the 600 Metres which allowed the horse to gradually build its momentum. He said, in his view, M Chadwick carried out his instructions in an appropriate fashion and the horse’s performance was positive in comparison to its most recent disappointing performances. He added accordingly, he was satisfied with Jockey Chadwick’s riding of ISHVARA in the Home Straight.
