Racing Incident Report

At declaration time, M L Yeung was declared as the rider of PEARL HARBOUR and WORLD CITY. It was established that M L Yeung had a firm commitment to ride WORLD CITY. As such, the Stewards permitted T H So to be substituted as the rider of PEARL HARBOUR. For this declaration error, Trainer A Lee was fined $2,000.
WORLD CITY was withdrawn on 3.1.17 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HAYMAKER (M L Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, WORLD CITY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GRACYDAD began only fairly.
NOTED PERFORMER was checked on jumping when crowded for room between PEARL HARBOUR and FANTASTIC FABIO which shifted out abruptly.
BREEDERS’ STAR was checked on jumping when crowded for room between PEARL HARBOUR and LUCKY KINGDOM which shifted in. LUCKY KINGDOM was then shifted out abruptly to relieve the tightening to BREEDERS’ STAR. After this, from a wide barrier, BREEDERS’ STAR was shifted across behind runners.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, GAME OF FUN was steadied when crowded for room inside HAYMAKER which was taken in by VERY RICH MAN (S de Sousa). S de Sousa was severely reprimanded and told to ensure that he prevents his mounts from shifting ground when not clear of other horses.
Making the first turn after the 1000 Metres, when racing very wide, PEARL HARBOUR got its head on the side and hung out. After this, PEARL HARBOUR travelled wide and without cover. Then after briefly obtaining cover passing the 700 Metres, PEARL HARBOUR again hung out making the turn near the 550 Metres and subsequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of PEARL HARBOUR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The racing manners and performance of PEARL HARBOUR were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, PEARL HARBOUR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the 800 Metres, LUCKY KINGDOM was left racing wide and without cover.
For some distance passing the 200 Metres, after endeavouring to improve between FANTASTIC FABIO and STARLOT, HAYMAKER was disappointed for running outside STARLOT approaching the 100 Metres when that horse shifted out.
Close to the finishing line, STARLOT was steadied away from the heels of GRACYDAD (J Moreira) which shifted in and consequently was unable to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race. J Moreira was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When questioned regarding his riding of HAYMAKER approaching and passing the 500 Metres, M L Yeung stated that at this time he was following SPARKLING TALENT after having raced inside PEARL HARBOUR. He said although he had noted that PEARL HARBOUR had hung out making the turn after the 550 Metres, he was reluctant to shift HAYMAKER out at this time as he was aware that GRACYDAD was improving between HAYMAKER and PEARL HARBOUR and he felt that shifting out may have caused interference to GRACYDAD. He said GRACYDAD subsequently improved its position quickly around HAYMAKER and therefore he was unable to shift HAYMAKER out. He added HAYMAKER was then held up for clear running for a short distance in the early part of the Straight before obtaining clear running to the inside of SPARKLING TALENT near the 250 Metres. M L Yeung was advised that by not shifting out to prevent GRACYDAD from improving around HAYMAKER at this time of the race, his riding had come under notice. He was further advised to ensure that he rides his mounts in such a manner so as to afford them the opportunity improve their positions and obtain clear running.
GRACYDAD, VERY RICH MAN and GAME OF FUN were sent for sampling.
