Racing Incident Report

MASTER CERAMIBO shifted in abruptly on jumping despite the efforts of its rider, resulting in AMAZING GOLD being crowded for room outside ANDOYAS which became unbalanced after being bumped by AMAZING GOLD. A short distance later, AMAZING GOLD was again crowded for room between MASTER CERAMIBO and ANDOYAS which was taken out by JOLLY GENE which shifted out after making contact with GIANT TURTLE. In this incident, MASTER CERAMIBO became badly unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by AMAZING GOLD.
From a wide barrier, THE SYLPH was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Passing the 1600 Metres, ANDOYAS was steadied after being crowded for room inside HAPPY ROCKY which got its head on the side and shifted in away from THE SYLPH.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, INDUSTRIALIST WAY was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 450 Metres, GIANT TURTLE shifted out and bumped PEARL WARM WARM. GIANT TURTLE was then badly held up for clear running rounding the Home Turn and in the Straight until passing the 150 Metres. S Clipperton (GIANT TURTLE) explained that after being badly held up for clear running a run appeared outside DR WIN WIN which was giving ground and inside JOLLY GENE passing the 150 Metres. He said he was reluctant to ride his mount along at this time as he was aware that JOLLY GENE was looking to improve its position outside CLUB LIFE. He said he felt that had he have ridden GIANT TURTLE at this time, he would have been held up for clear running again behind CLUB LIFE and inside JOLLY GENE and for this reason he waited for JOLLY GENE to shift in and improve to the outside of that horse approaching the 50 Metres and then rode his mount out hands and heels to the winning post. A veterinary inspection of GIANT TURTLE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JOLLY GENE was held up for clear running from shortly after entering the Straight until passing the 200 Metres. Passing the 100 Metres, JOLLY GENE was awkwardly placed inside the heels of INDUSTRIALIST WAY when improving into tight running between that horse and CLUB LIFE.
Passing the 200 Metres, MASTER CERAMIBO, which was making ground, was steadied away from the heels of PEARL WARM WARM (U Rispoli) which shifted to the outside of INDUSTRIALIST WAY to obtain clear running. U Rispoli was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Also passing the 200 Metres, AMAZING GOLD was shifted out away from the heels of THE SYLPH to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100 Metres, ENREACHING and HAPPY ROCKY bumped.
When questioned, C Y Ho stated that, from the outside barrier, he had been asked to ride DR WIN WIN in the lead if possible. He said after riding his mount positively out of the barriers, he allowed its natural speed to take it to the lead after the 1600 Metres and he was able to cross JOLLY GENE and raced on the rail approaching the winning post on the first occasion. He said when CLUB LIFE improved to his outside after passing the winning post on the first occasion, DR WIN WIN commenced to travel keenly and would not relax. He said he tried to steady the tempo on DR WIN WIN as he was aware the race was being run at a fast tempo after the 1200 Metres, however, DR WIN WIN continued to race keenly and he was reluctant to apply more pressure to the horse to steady as he did not want to break its stride. He said because he was aware that the race had been run at a faster pace than he would have hoped, he attempted to hold his mount together as long as possible rounding the Home Turn when horses improved to his outside to afford DR WIN WIN every opportunity to finish off the race. He said however that because of the tempo of the race in the early and middle stages, DR WIN WIN was then not able to close off the race and gave ground in the Straight. C Y Ho was advised that his explanation would be reported, however, in the opinion of the Stewards, he should have made more of an effort to steady DR WIN WIN in the lead so as to provide the horse with the best opportunity to finish off the race.
GIANT TURTLE, ANDOYAS and HAPPY ROCKY were sent for sampling.
<12/3/2017 8 March 2017 Happy Valley Racemeeting – Race 7 (479)>After reviewing the video footage for the Happy Valley racemeeting conducted on Wednesday, 8 March 2017 as is usual practice, the Stewards today questioned J Moreira regarding his riding of ENREACHING in the middle stages of the race. J Moreira stated that approaching the 800 Metres the race was being run at a good tempo and he elected to shift out to race behind INDUSTRIALIST WAY passing the 800 Metres in case the leaders commenced to give ground given the tempo of the race. He said as the tempo continued to be good approaching the 700 Metres and as INDUSTRIALIST WAY had raced wide and without cover throughout the race, he felt there was more likelihood of PEARL WARM WARM being able to take him into the race rather than INDUSTRIALIST WAY and as HAPPY ROCKY was improving its position around ENREACHING at this time, he elected to shift back in to race behind PEARL WARM WARM rather than be taken back through the field by INDUSTRIALIST WAY and pocketed inside HAPPY ROCKY. He said ENREACHING was provided with the opportunity to shift back in behind PEARL WARM WARM as ANDOYAS, which was attempting to improve into that position, was not quick enough to take advantage of that run. He said PEARL WARM WARM initially held its position whilst INDUSTRIALIST WAY was under heavy pressure after the 600 Metres, however, the pattern of the race changed markedly after the 500 Metres as PEARL WARM WARM was unable to continue improving inside CLUB LIFE which was under pressure and he was obliged to wait until after the 400 Metres to be able to shift to the outside of runners to obtain clear running. He added in hindsight he had erred in not maintaining the three wide position behind INDUSTRIALIST WAY, however, he felt at the time that this was the better of the two options available to him. J Moreira was advised that the Stewards agreed that he should have remained racing behind INDUSTRIALIST WAY rather than shifting back in to race amongst runners. He was further advised to ensure that, wherever possible, he rides his mounts in such a manner so that they are afforded the opportunity to improve their position when it arises.
