Racing Incident Report
RIGHTEOUS MATE began awkwardly and lost ground.
Shortly after the start, when being ridden along, LUCKY WIN WIN shifted in and bumped PROUD SKY.
Also shortly after the start GARLIC YEAH was momentarily crowded for room between MIDNITE PROMISE and EVER LAUGH which shifted out.
From the outside barrier, PLAY IT was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Passing the 1700 Metres, EVER LAUGH got its head up when being checked away from the heels of LUCKY WIN WIN (Apprentice C Wong) which at this time was steadied in the lead. GREAT JOY, which was following, got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of EVER LAUGH for some distance. Apprentice Wong was severely reprimanded and warned against the practice of steadying the tempo in races such that other riders and horses are not provided with sufficient time to adjust to the change in pace.
Passing the 500 Metres, SMART CHARADE and EVER LAUGH raced tight as EVER LAUGH shifted out in an attempt to obtain clear running.
After shifting out at the entrance to the Straight and momentarily racing behind BULLISH GLORY, GARLIC YEAH was then shifted to the inside of the heels of that horse at the 400 Metres to continue improving. PLAY IT, which was following GARLIC YEAH, was shifted in away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Approaching the 300 Metres, GARLIC YEAH was shifted in away from the heels of BULLISH GLORY which got its head on the side and lay in.,
Close to the finishing line, GARLIC YEAH and BULLISH GLORY raced tight.
Throughout the race, MIDNITE PROMISE travelled wide and without cover.
The performance of LUCKY WIN WIN, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY WIN WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of EVER LAUGH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
GREAT JOY, MIDNITE PROMISE and GARLIC YEAH were sent for sampling.
<30/4/2018 Additional Veterinary Report>The Clinical Veterinary Surgeon reported that GREAT JOY was lame in its right front leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT JOY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
