Racing Incident Report

MULTIGOGO was withdrawn on 22.5.18 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ULTIMATE DREAM (N Callan). Before being allowed to race again, MULTIGOGO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
On arrival at the Start, A Sanna expressed concern regarding the action of GLORY STAR. GLORY STAR was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said he could not detect any significant findings and after the necessary consultations the horse was found to be suitable to race. A veterinary inspection of GLORY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
JOLLY GAINS, which was fractious in the barriers, began only fairly and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of ALL YOU KNOW which shifted out after being bumped by SEA PEARL.
SMART BABY began only fairly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of ULTIMATE DREAM which became unbalanced.
PEARL WARM WARM shifted in at the start and bumped GENTRY. GENTRY and PEARL WARM WARM were then steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
Near the 1400 Metres, SEA PEARL commenced to prove very difficult to settle and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of PERFECT CHOICE (K C Ng) which shifted in when not properly clear. K C Ng was advised that whilst the racing manners of SEA PEARL had contributed to this incident, nonetheless he must ensure that he is properly clear when shifting ground. Then for some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres, SEA PEARL continued to travel keenly and making the turn near the 1050 Metres became unbalanced.
Approaching the 1300 Metres, SMART BABY and PEARL WARM WARM were crowded for room by GOLD VELVET (C Schofield) which shifted in before being shifted out to relieve the tightening to PEARL WARM WARM and SMART BABY. C Schofield was severely reprimanded and advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances.
Near the 1250 Metres, PEARL WARM WARM got its head up when awkwardly placed behind GLORY STAR.
Approaching the 400 Metres, PEARL WARM WARM was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GLORY STAR when being shifted to the outside of that horse.
Passing the 200 Metres, SMART BABY was shifted to the outside of ALL YOU KNOW to obtain clear running.
After the 200 Metres, ULTIMATE DREAM was bumped by CHARITY WINGS which was directed out by WIN FOR CHARITY.
Over the final 100 Metres, ALL YOU KNOW got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.
When questioned regarding the performance of GOLD VELVET, C Schofield stated that it had been hoped that the horse would be able to obtain a midfield position from barrier 11. He said he rode his mount along in the early stages, however, after being bumped by PEARL WARM WARM a short distance after the start when that horse shifted out, he was left racing very wide in about a midfield position. He said in order to avoid racing unnecessarily wide, he steadied GOLD VELVET passing the winning post on the first occasion in an attempt to obtain cover behind GLORY STAR. He said after shifting wider passing the 1300 Metres, he then was able to obtain cover behind GLORY STAR passing the 1100 Metres. He said in order to obtain cover, he was required to race much further back in the field than had been intended and was obliged to race at the rear of the field. He added passing the 500 Metres he shifted to the outside of GLORY STAR in an attempt to improve his position and this resulted in him having to race wide rounding the Home Turn. He said in the Straight GOLD VELVET finished off the race only fairly and whilst the horse appeared disappointing, he believed that the circumstances of tonight’s race were not to the advantage of GOLD VELVET and as such he felt that the horse’s run was not as disappointing as it first appeared. A veterinary inspection of GOLD VELVET immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PEARL WARM WARM immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PEARL WARM WARM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
GOLD VELVET, ALL YOU KNOW and ULTIMATE DREAM were sent for sampling.
