Chantilly Racecourse – Track Analysis (Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Prix de l'Opera, Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp & Prix de la Foret):

Chantilly Racecourse is one of the major racing and training centres in Paris, which saw its first meetings inaugurated since 1834. On top of being the traditional home for the Prix du Jockey Club (French Derby), the Prix de Diane (French Oaks) and the Prix Jean Prat, this year’s running of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe will again be staged at Chantilly to make way for the proceeding renovations at Longchamp.

Similar to Longchamp, a star-studded field for the 2400m Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly this Sunday will cruise through a protracted 1000m straight before hitting the first right-handed corner, still gradual, yet subtly going uphill. After another 200m straight, the field will face a tight, wicked far turn that has seen many a serious contender losing precious ground while attempting a prematurely wide move. Finally, the field will race for all their worth in the 600m homestretch, and is definitely a genuine test of acceleration and stamina.

Similar to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, stall assignments for the 2000m Prix de l’Opera cast minimal bearings, as runners have plenty of time to sort themselves out over an extended backstretch; however, with a short run-up to the first turn in the 1400m Prix de la Foret, outside-drawn runners are required of extra efforts. Meanwhile, for the Prix de l'Abbaye de Longchamp contested over the 1000m homestretch, front-runners cruising on the stands side certainly have a tactical advantage, yet it is as prospective for runners from off the pace to reel in their opposition on the far side.

In last year’s running of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly, FOUND, HIGHLAND REEL and ORDER OF ST GEORGE, while saving ground throughout, were all poised in good striking positions early before pouncing down the lane to constitute the eventual Coolmore tierce.

Despite continued good weather, rain is on deck for the Paris area on Sunday according to the long-range forecast, and this year’s running of the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at Chantilly will probably be contested on holding ground – with a particular deep cut down on the rail – which will be a big factor upon the final race selections.
