Prix de l'Opera S2 - 3, 01/10/2017, Sunday Post Time 22:50

1

Shamreen

Still looks progressive and is also  tough and consistent. Her latest start was probably a career best performance when she led from start to finish to stylishly win a 2000m G2 at The Curragh  that she had also won less easily in 2016. Soft ground suits her ideally.

2

Queen’s Trust

Came fast and late to win a G1 on a firm turf surface over this distance at Santa Anita last November. In good shape during a light 2017 and no disgrace to finish third to Enable in a G1 at York last time. Drying ground preferable but she can handle good to soft.

3

The Black Princess

Hampered early on and never figured after in a G1 over 2400m here in September but she had won over this course and distance in a G3 here back in April when she led from gate to wire, tactics that may well be attempted here as she'll want a decent pace at this trip.

4

Silver Step

Proved her stamina for this trip when gaining a hard-fought Listed race win on easy ground at Maisons-Laffitte back in July. She was also a narrow G3 winner at San Siro last year but that was a relatively weak affair. Hard to fancy in strong company here.

5

Left Hand

A G1 winner over 2400m here at Chantilly in September 2016 and ran third, closing late after meeting with interference, in the same event on her latest start. She is effective over this shorter distance but does seem hard to win with nowadays.

6

Hydrangea

On her latest start she recorded a shock defeat of quadruple G1 winning stablemate Winter (who had beaten her four times previously) in a 1600m G1 at Leopardstown. Prominent throughout she rallied strongly for pressure and seems to be blossoming at this time of year. She handles slow ground and should last this distance.

7

Senga

Two of her three wins have come here at Chantilly and she enjoyed a lovely trip down the outside when winning the prestigious G1 Prix de Diane (2100m) here in June but was not quite as sharp at Deauville subsequently. Her trainer is hoping for drying ground.

8

Lady Frankel

Despite the fact that plenty went wrong for her in the race she managed to narrowly win a G3 over 1600m on good ground at Deauville in August. Never managed to get prominent in a G1 over 1600m here this month when maybe the testing ground was against her.

9

Lacazar

A very talented filly who sat off the speed before swooping to win a G1 over 2200m at Dusseldorf in August, on her latest start. The form of that victory might not be that strong but she certainly knows how to win, and seems very happy on a testing surface.

10

Wuheida

The determined winner of a G1 over 1600m at this meeting as a two-year-old in 2016. She has run well in three G1's this season, latterly when 1 3/4L fourth to today's rival Hydrangea over 1600m at Leopardstown in September. Fine over this longer trip but might not want it too soft.

11

Onthemoonagain

Hopefully she won't remember her fall in the straight - when just beginning her challenge -  for a G1 here at Chantilly back in June. She has since run two solid placed efforts at Deauville -  in a G3 and a G2 over this distance - and may still be on the upgrade.

12

Rhododendron

Second to the mighty Enable in the Oaks at Epsom in June. She dropped to 2100m for the French equivilent race here at Chantilly but was injured and pulled up. Brought along cautiously  since and likely to be a good deal sharper for her recent return at Leopardstown.

13

Melesina

This UK trained filly faded and was eased down when last of nine in a 2100m Listed race here early in September. That was her first start since March when she had won in similar company over 1600m at Saint-Cloud, proving that she handled soft ground. Hard to fancy.

14

Ashiana

Appeared outpaced in a 2400m G2 at Baden-Baden in September but found her stride in the straight and was on top in the last 100m. She has won over this shorter trip but a strong pace will surely be helpful. Very soft ground may be a worry.
