Racing Laboratory has been an accredited laboratory under HOKLAS since 1992 and is currently accredited to the relevant requirements outlined in ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
Scope of accreditation:
International Federation of Horseracing Authorities (IFHA):
The Head of Racing Laboratory (HRL) and former HRL (currently Consultant to the Club) serve respectively as a member and the Chairman of the IFHA Advisory Council on Equine Prohibited Substances and Practices. Our Laboratory has been instrumental in the drafting and revision of Article Six (Biological Integrity of the Horse) of the International Agreement on Breeding, Racing and Wagering (IABRW).
In August 2017, our Laboratory was appointed as one of the five reference laboratories by IFHA. This appointment highlights the pivotal role we play in upholding the integrity and fairness of horseracing events, particularly those of the highest caliber such as the prestigious Group 1 races. HRL and former HRL (currently Consultant to the Club), also serve respectively as a member and the Chairman of the IFHA Reference Laboratory Technical Committee (RLTC). The former HRL (currently Consultant to the Club) is also a member of the Reference Laboratory Appointment Committee (RLAC).
International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC):
Our Laboratory has played a major role in the production of ILAC-G7:1994, "Accreditation Requirements and Operating Criteria for Horseracing Laboratories" and its revised versions including the latest ILAC-G7:04/2021. In 2002, the former HRL (currently Consultant to the Club) was invited to join the ILAC Accreditation Committee and has been the convenor of a working group of international racing chemists and laboratory accreditation specialists to revise the ILAC-G7 document.
Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI):
Our Laboratory has been appointed by the FEI as a reference laboratory since 2001 and is currently one of five reference laboratories for the FEI. We are responsible for testing samples from international or high-level equestrian events held in Asia under FEI rules (e.g. the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Beijing, China; the 2010 Asian Games in Guangzhou, China; the 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Korea; and the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China). We are also a referee laboratory for the confirmatory analyses of FEI B-samples. In addition, HRL is a member of the FEI Laboratory Harmonisation Group.
Association of Official Racing Chemists (AORC):
Senior professional personnel in the Racing Laboratory are professional members or fellows of AORC. They are active in AORC matters, and have served on the AORC Executive Board and various committees. Since 1993, our Laboratory has been maintaining and updating a mass spectral database (of chemical fingerprints of drugs and metabolites) for the AORC.
