Racing Incident Report

MALHUB was withdrawn on 14.12.02 on veterinary grounds (raised muscle enzymes) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter THUNDER. BELIEVE, which was standing with its head turned slightly to the right side, left the gates very awkwardly. On jumping, ANABATIK stumbled. ZIPPING missed the start slightly. About the 200 Metres, CAPE OF GOOD HOPE was disappointed for running between SHONAN KAMPF and TEXAS GLITTER (E Prado) which shifted in whilst being ridden along. E Prado was reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he should stop riding and straighten. To obtain running after this incident, CAPE OF GOOD HOPE was shifted out. Near the winning post, SHONAN KAMPF was momentarily crowded by TEXAS GLITTER which continued to shift ground. D Nikolic (MISTEGIC) said about 100 Metres out he felt the horse momentarily lose its balance. Then after the race he said MISTEGIC felt sore in front and accordingly he dismounted and led the horse back to the scale. MISTEGIC was examined by the Veterinary Officer who reported the horse was lame in its right side front leg. On cooling down, it was noted MISTEGIC had blood in its nasal passages. An endoscopic examination confirmed that the horse had suffered a bleeding attack. BELIEVE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, BELIEVE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No abnormalities were detected. ALL THRILLS TOO and FIREBOLT were sent for sampling. On returning to the stable after the race, stable staff reported that TEXAS GLITTER had a discharge from its nose. A veterinary examination was carried out which included scoping. This revealed a moderate amount of blood in the windpipe.
