Racing Incident Report

SAN LORENZO was slow to begin. EGYPTIAN RA began awkwardly, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of STARDANE. On jumping, SANZIRO and SAINT THOMAS bumped. For some distance after the 800 Metres, CLASSIC NAVIGATOR was steadied away from the heels of BOBO WIN (Apprentice C W Wong) which shifted in when not properly clear. Having in mind Apprentice Wong's relative inexperience, he was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he must make a greater effort to protect his fellow riders. In the early stages, EGYPTIAN RA proved very difficult to settle and after the 800 Metres shifted out and was then allowed to stride forward despite being wide on the track. Then in the Straight, EGYPTIAN RA hung in and proved difficult to ride. For the major part of the race, ABSOLUTE CHAMPION hung out and near the 600 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between SAN LORENZO and TRIUMPHANT UNICORN. Throughout the race, FLASHING STAR and FLYING GENERAL raced wide and without cover. When questioned regarding the improved performance of BOBO WIN, Mr J Moore, trainer of the horse, was unable to offer any explanation. He said after having its first run for his stable in November 2004, BOBO WIN was gelded and in his opinion today appreciated the light weight carried together with some cut in the ground. He said BOBO WIN at its last start on the Large All Weather did not have any luck and travelled wide throughout. Mr Moore pointed out the quality of the horses that won the two turf races in which BOBO WIN had competed since joining his stable in his opinion was higher than that of today's field. C Williams (SAN LORENZO) said after being slow to begin he did not ride to make up lost ground but rather the horse quickly made ground through the field. He said in the past SAN LORENZO had shown itself to have a tendency to over-race and again when the pace steadied near the 800 Metres SAN LORENZO would not relax for him. He said he made contact with ABSOLUTE CHAMPION near the 600 Metres and the horse became unbalanced in its action, however, then commenced to travel well again until into the Home Straight. He said when placed under pressure SAN LORENZO appeared to become uncomfortable in its action and did not respond to his riding. SAN LORENZO was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SAN LORENZO after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, B Prebble reported EVERY TIME felt sore in front. EVERY TIME was sent for an official veterinary inspection. EVERY TIME was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. SAINT THOMAS, BOBO WIN and EGYPTIAN RA were sent for sampling.
