Racing Incident Report

CHAMPION’S WAY began awkwardly.
Shortly after the start, NOT USUAL TALENT momentarily raced in restricted room between FAST MOST FURIOUS and MORE THAN THIS which shifted in.
Passing the 800 Metres and again near the 600 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAST MOST FURIOUS.
Passing the 200 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY and NOT USUAL TALENT raced tight. CHAMPION’S WAY then shifted out after the 200 Metres and inconvenienced NOT USUAL TALENT. CHAMPION’S WAY and NOT USUAL TALENT then bumped passing the 100 Metres as a result of a minor shift from both horses.
After the race, Z Purton stated that KA YING STAR was disappointing in today’s race. He said carrying top weight, KA YING STAR came under pressure at the entrance to the Straight and was unable to quicken when HEALTHY HAPPY and SKY DARCI improved to the outside of KA YING STAR after the 400 Metres. He said after this KA YING STAR gave ground. A veterinary inspection of KA YING STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of MORE THAN THIS, K Teetan stated that he was asked to commence to make his move at the 600 Metres as MORE THAN THIS is one-paced. He said after improving to race outside the hindquarters of SKY DARCI near the 550 Metres, MORE THAN THIS was unable to make any further ground on that horse and after being placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. He added that having to give weight to most of the field may explain the performance of MORE THAN THIS, however, irrespective of this, in his opinion, he believed the horse was very disappointing in today’s race. Mr C S Shum, the trainer of MORE THAN THIS, said that following today’s disappointing performance, it was his intention to spell the horse. A veterinary inspection of MORE THAN THIS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SKY DARCI had sustained a minor laceration to the left hind heel.
SKY DARCI and HEALTHY HAPPY were sent for sampling.
