Race:1 (566) JIANGUOMEN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1000 m

CARRY TO WIN was withdrawn on 9.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, CARRY TO WIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WHISTLE UP began only fairly and then was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Making the first turn near the 550 Metres, DOUBLE DOUBLE got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of SHOW MISSION.
COUR VALANT lay out rounding the Home Turn.
In the early part of the Straight, DOUBLE DOUBLE was shifted out a number of horses to obtain clear running.
GREAT SON became unbalanced passing the winning post.
A veterinary inspection of TRIUMPHANT LORD and WHISTLE UP immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SHOW MISSION, GREAT SON and PEACE ON EARTH were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (567) JINBAO STREET HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

MANFUL STAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped SUPER JUNIOR which became unbalanced.
SUPER MODEL shifted in at the start and bumped EXCEPTIONAL DESIRE.
LITTLE WISE MAN began only fairly and then after travelling a short distance was crowded for room between JOLLY CONVERGENCE which shifted in and POWER RACER which was taken out by FLYING GODSPELL which got its head on the side and shifted out away from GOUTEN OF GARO after initially being bumped by that horse. After this, POWER RACER, LITTLE WISE MAN and JOLLY CONVERGENCE were all shifted across behind runners from outside barriers. FLYING GODSPELL was then ridden along, however, failed to muster speed and near the 1100 Metres was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Despite being vigorously ridden in the early stages, KHAKI failed to muster speed.
For some distance approaching and passing the 800 Metres, FLYING GODSPELL travelled keenly and approaching the 700 Metres shifted out abruptly away from the heels of PRECIOUS SWEETIE when continuing to prove difficult to settle. Then after the 600 Metres, FLYING GODSPELL was left racing wide and without cover.
GOUTEN OF GARO travelled wide and without cover until after the 600 Metres.
Approaching the 200 Metres, PERFECT BUDDY was shifted to the outside of JOLLY CONVERGENCE after being disappointed for running between that horse and MANFUL STAR.
Passing the 100 Metres, POWER RACER was shifted out away from the heels of GOUTEN OF GARO which was giving ground.
A veterinary inspection of FLYING GODSPELL and GOUTEN OF GARO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
PRECIOUS SWEETIE and LITTLE WISE MAN were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (568) CHAOYANGMEN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1650 m

ROYAL RACER and CALIFORNIA LEGEND bumped at the start.
CHARITY WINGS was crowded for room on jumping between GENTRY which shifted out after being brushed by ALPHA HEDGE and BUNDLE OF ENERGY which shifted in. This resulted in CHARITY WINGS bumping the hindquarters of GENTRY which became badly unbalanced and shifted out abruptly, causing CHARITY WINGS to be checked when crowded for room inside BUNDLE OF ENERGY. When being checked, CHARITY WINGS bumped the hindquarters of BUNDLE OF ENERGY which became unbalanced, shifted out and hampered SHINEALOT. As a result of these incidents, CHARITY WINGS, BUNDLE OF ENERGY and SHINEALOT were all shifted across behind runners from wide barriers.
From the outside barrier, ACCLAIMED LIGHT was also steadied on jumping and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, TRUE GRIT was steadied away from the heels of ROYAL RACER which was taken in by SEIZE THE SPIRIT (K C Leung). K C Leung was advised to ensure that he is properly clear of other runners when shifting ground.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, GENTRY shifted out marginally when awkwardly placed behind ALPHA HEDGE. When GENTRY shifted back in behind ALPHA HEDGE, CHARITY WINGS, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. Then approaching the 800 Metres, CHARITY WINGS got its head up when being shifted out from behind GENTRY.
Passing the 1000 Metres, ROYAL RACER got its head up when travelling keenly.
Near the 450 Metres, TRUE GRIT was taken wider by ROYAL RACER which shifted out.
In the early part of the Straight, DR RACE was awkwardly placed behind SEIZE THE SPIRIT.
Near the 200 Metres, SEIZE THE SPIRIT and BUNDLE OF ENERGY raced tight.
Over the final 100 Metres, both TRUE GRIT and ALPHA HEDGE shifted out under pressure.
A veterinary inspection of GENTRY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TRUE GRIT and ALPHA HEDGE were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (569) THE HONG KONG EXCHANGES CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

CHEERFULJET was withdrawn on 9.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, CHEERFULJET will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MEGA HEART began only fairly and then lost ground when crowded for room between VERY RICH MAN and FLYING TIGER HERO which was taken out by VICTORY MACHINE which in turn was taken out by TELECOM PUMA (Apprentice C Wong). In this incident, FLYING TIGER HERO also lost ground when badly crowded for room and VICTORY MACHINE was hampered. Apprentice Wong was told to ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting out in similar circumstances.
Near the 850 Metres, TELECOM PUMA raced tight inside VERY RICH MAN (H T Mo) which shifted in before being directed out abruptly to relieve the tightening to TELECOM PUMA. This resulted in H T Mo becoming unbalanced.
After the race, K Teetan (CALIFORNIA ARGENT) stated that he had to make a lot of use of his horse in the early stages to obtain a forward position. He said, in his opinion, because of this CALIFORNIA ARGENT was then not able to finish off the race. He added that he believed that the horse was looking for further distances based on the manner in which it raced tonight. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA ARGENT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of VERY RICH MAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
DREAM COME TRUE and FAIRY TWINS were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (570) THE BEIJING CLUBHOUSE ANNIVERSARY CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

REGENCY GEM was slow to begin and after being ridden along for a short distance was shifted across behind runners.
YEE CHEONG PEGASUS was crowded for room on jumping between MAJESTIC ENDEAVOUR and SUPER EURO STAR, both of which shifted ground.
LAMAROSA began only fairly.
After beginning only fairly, JOYFUL HEART was steadied shortly after when crowded for room between LONDON MASTER which shifted in marginally and LE TERROIR which was taken out by NATURAL FLARE.
From a wide barrier, DALRADIAN was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
After the 900 Metres, when being crossed by LE TERROIR, SUPER EURO STAR travelled keenly.
When making the turn near the 550 Metres, NATURAL FLARE shifted out away from the heels of SUPER EURO STAR and bumped LONDON MASTER. LONDON MASTER and NATURAL FLARE then raced tight for a short distance.
Approaching the 500 Metres, YEE CHEONG PEGASUS got its head on the side, shifted out and was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SUPER EURO STAR.
For the majority of the race, CAPTAIN BOSS travelled wide and without cover.
JOYFUL HEART lost its right front plate after the race.
When questioned, Z Purton stated he was told that LE TERROIR had not been beginning well and he was asked, if possible, to ensure that the horse began better tonight and take up a more forward position. He said in accordance with his instructions he rode his mount along in the early stages and attempted to obtain a trailing position behind SUPER EURO STAR making the turn near the 1000 Metres. He said as NATURAL FLARE was maintaining its position to the inside of LE TERROIR, he was therefore left racing three wide and without cover. He added that near the 900 Metres he allowed his mount to improve its position forward of SUPER EURO STAR to shift in and race outside WAH MAY PRINCESS.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on LAMAROSA at the request of Trainer P O’Sullivan. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, LAMAROSA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of JOYFUL HEART immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of SUPER EURO STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of LONDON MASTER immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer” which had previously been reported.
WAH MAY PRINCESS and LE TERROIR were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (571) DONGZHIMEN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

HOLY UNICORN was withdrawn on 9.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ENJOY LIFE. Before being allowed to race again, HOLY UNICORN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
MANAGEMENT STAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ABOVE.
GARLIC YEAH shifted out at the start and inconvenienced GOOD DAYS and KING’S MAN. LUCKY SHINY DAY, which was racing outside KING’S MAN, got its head on the side and shifted out away from that horse, resulting in SMART BABY being crowded for room inside SANGRIA. After this, from outside barriers, KING’S MAN, LUCKY SHINY DAY, SMART BABY and SANGRIA were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, GARLIC YEAH failed to muster speed.
At the entrance to the Straight, SANGRIA and GOOD DAYS bumped.
At the 300 Metres, MANAGEMENT STAR (C Y Ho) was shifted to the outside of LITTLE ISLAND in an attempt to improve outside that horse and inside ABOVE. As MANAGEMENT STAR shifted out, LITTLE ISLAND, which was racing in advance of MANAGEMENT STAR, shifted out marginally. This resulted in MANAGEMENT STAR and ABOVE bumping on a number of occasions as both horses were unbalanced due to the initial contact. After obtaining running to the outside of LITTLE ISLAND near the 250 Metres, ABOVE and MANAGEMENT STAR continued to make contact on a number of occasions due to both horses shifting slight ground when unbalanced. C Y Ho was reprimanded and told to ensure that he exercises due care when shifting out to obtain clear running so that undue pressure is not put on other runners.
In the Straight, GARLIC YEAH lay in under pressure and was reluctant to shift to the outside of ENJOY LIFE. This resulted in GARLIC YEAH not being able to be fully tested at times in the Straight.
A veterinary inspection of ABOVE immediately following the race found that horse to have sustained a small wound to the inside of the left front pastern.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY SHINY DAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RULETHEROOST and MANAGEMENT STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (572) DONGCHENG DISTRICT HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

SPEED VISION and SPEEDY KING bumped at the start, resulting in SPEEDY KING becoming badly unbalanced, shifting out and hampering FANTASTIC FEELING.
SEVEN HEAVENS got its head up on jumping when being steadied from a wide barrier to obtain cover. SEVEN HEAVENS was also bumped by PEOPLE’S KNIGHT on jumping.
CASA DE FORCA began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of MEGA RED.
From a wide barrier, CEREFINO was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners.
K Teetan (CASA DE FORCA) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of FANTASTIC FEELING, causing that horse to be unnecessarily hampered when crowded for room inside CASA DE FORCA. K Teetan was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 1 May 2019 and to expire on Monday, 6 May 2019 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Teetan’s good race riding record.
SEVEN HEAVENS got its head up passing the 1000 Metres.
Passing the 900 Metres, SPEEDY KING was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SPEED VISION.
CASA DE FORCA travelled wide and without cover until approaching the 600 Metres at which time PEOPLE’S KNIGHT was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 550 Metres, FANTASTIC FEELING was awkwardly placed behind SPEEDY KING.
At the entrance to the Straight, CEREFINO was awkwardly placed outside INFINITY ENDEAVOUR which shifted out.
When questioned, M F Poon stated that he was instructed to ride POWERMAX positively in the early stages to obtain a forward position and it was hoped that although the horse drew the outside barrier it may be able to obtain a position behind the speed. He said POWERMAX began very well and he immediately commenced to ride his mount along. He said he continued to ride POWERMAX along in the early stages, however, after the 1100 Metres PEOPLE’S KNIGHT was ridden along to maintain its position inside POWERMAX. He said as he believed that POWERMAX was not showing sufficient speed to be able to cross PEOPLE’S KNIGHT, he therefore attempted to steady POWERMAX to obtain a trailing position behind that horse. He added that making the first turn near the 1000 Metres when being steadied, POWERMAX lay out which provided CEREFINO with the opportunity to improve its position to be racing inside POWERMAX. He said this resulted in POWERMAX being left racing wide and without cover throughout the race and further back in the field than had been anticipated.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of KA YING LEGEND, M L Yeung stated that when he last rode the horse at Happy Valley over the course and distance of tonight’s race, although it ran second, KA YING LEGEND initially was able to take up a forward position behind the speed, however, had to be ridden along after the 900 Metres as it was reluctant to hold its position. He said because of this he rode the horse along in the early stages tonight as he was mindful of the fact that the horse had been reluctant to maintain its position in the middle stages. He said after being crossed by SPEED VISION after the 1100 Metres, KA YING LEGEND was again reluctant to maintain its position and he rode his mount along to ensure that it was able to remain racing as close as possible behind that horse. He said this resulted in him having to ride KA YING LEGEND along for some distance. He said based on the manner in which KA YING LEGEND failed to finish off its race, he was of the view that the horse may be better suited by allowing it to race where it was comfortable rather than having to continually ride it along in an attempt to obtain a more forward position. A veterinary inspection of KA YING LEGEND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped due to being fractious.
A veterinary inspection of STARLIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPEED VISION and SPEEDY KING were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (573) WANGFUJING HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1650 m

EPIC was withdrawn on 9.4.19 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter FLYING QUEST (C Schofield). Before being allowed to race again, EPIC will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
From outside barriers, RACING LUCK, PRETTY BAUHINIA and MAGNETISM were all shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, VOYAGE KING shifted in and bumped FLYING QUEST.
After being left racing wide and without cover passing the winning post on the first occasion, MERRYGOWIN was allowed to improve its position near the 1100 Metres to race outside the lead after the 1000 Metres.
After passing the winning post on the first occasion, TOP LAURELS was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 600 Metres, VOYAGE KING was awkwardly placed outside HAR HAR HEART which shifted out to follow TOP LAURELS.
A veterinary inspection of TOP LAURELS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
HAPPY FORCE, BIG BANG BONG and RACING LUCK were sent for sampling.
<11/4/2019 Additional Veterinary Report>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that RAZOR QUEST was lame in its right hind leg on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, RAZOR QUEST will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
TOP LAURELS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. TOP LAURELS was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer K L Man this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, TOP LAURELS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
