Race:1 (111) TIN SAM HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 2000 m

JOY N FUN LEGEND began awkwardly and lost ground.
FORTUNE PATROL was crowded for room on jumping between YOU HAVE MY WORD and ENJOYABLE SUCCESS which shifted in. ENJOYABLE SUCCESS then became unbalanced and shifted out towards the heels of STRAPPING BAUHINIA. After making contact with STRAPPING BAUHINIA, ENJOYABLE SUCCESS shifted in, resulting in FORTUNE PATROL being further crowded for room.
After the 1700 Metres, AMAZING AGILITY was left racing wide and without cover.
Passing the 350 Metres, JOY N FUN LEGEND got its head on the side and lay out. JOY N FUN LEGEND was then momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of HOME WIN passing the 250 Metres.
H T Mo (JOY N FUN LEGEND) dropped his left rein passing the 50 Metres which he had difficulty regathering over the concluding stages. After the race, H T Mo reported that the bit pulled through the horse’s mouth approaching and rounding the Home Turn.
B Shinn (HOME WIN) was warned against using the whip on a horse which is out of contention.
After the race, B Shinn was not able to offer any explanation for the performance of HOME WIN which weakened in the Straight. A veterinary inspection of HOME WIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
Also after the race, C Y Ho reported that STRAPPING BAUHINIA was able to enjoy a good run and after having to commence riding his mount along prior to the 600 Metres STRAPPING BAUHINIA stayed on satisfactorily in the early part of the Straight. He said however that over the latter stages the horse gave ground and was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of STRAPPING BAUHINIA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
AMAZING AGILITY and SKY GEM were sent for sampling.

Race:2 (112) SIU LEK YUEN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

NORDIC WARRIOR was withdrawn on 17.10.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter HANG’S DECISION (M F Poon). Before being allowed to race again, NORDIC WARRIOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HANG’S DECISION turned its head to the left on jumping and consequently was slow to begin.
PERFECT TO PLAY lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was shifted across behind runners to obtain cover shortly after the start.
Shortly after the start, MARVELOUS FANS was steadied away from the heels of MORE THAN ENOUGH which shifted out.
From wide barriers, WONDER EXPRESS and CENTENARY IBIS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
For a considerable distance after the 1300 Metres, COLONEL travelled very keenly when being restrained to obtain cover.
Approaching the 900 Metres, ALL JOYFUL was awkwardly placed outside the heels of COLONEL when being steadied to obtain cover behind that horse. Then, after obtaining cover behind COLONEL, ALL JOYFUL raced close to the heels of that horse approaching and passing the 800 Metres. COPARTNER ERA, which was following ALL JOYFUL, became awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse in consequence passing the 800 Metres, resulting in MERRYGOWIN, which was following COPARTNER ERA and which was travelling keenly, getting its head up and becoming unbalanced when being checked away from the heels of COPARTNER ERA near the 800 Metres. CENTENARY IBIS, which was following MERRYGOWIN, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence, resulting in HANG’S DECISION and FORTUNE TRIPLE being inconvenienced and shifting out from behind that horse.
Also passing the 800 Metres, ATHENA was awkwardly placed behind MORE THAN ENOUGH, resulting in MARVELOUS FANS shifting out away from the heels of ATHENA and improving into tight running between that horse and COPARTNER ERA. PERFECT TO PLAY, which was travelling keenly, was then awkwardly placed inside MARVELOUS FANS and behind ATHENA. Whilst it was evident that the pace of the race had slowed significantly after the 900 Metres, the Stewards were not of the view that any rider or riders had ridden their mounts in such a manner to unnecessarily reduce the tempo of the race, rather they were satisfied that it was the circumstances of the race and the manner in which COLONEL had relaxed after racing keenly which had been the principal reason for the tempo slowing at this stage which resulted in a number of horses being hampered. After this, COPARTNER ERA and FORTUNE TRIPLE travelled wide and without cover.
MARVELOUS FANS was held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 350 Metres was shifted to the inside of ALL JOYFUL after being disappointed for running between that horse and COPARTNER ERA. When MARVELOUS FANS was shifted in, BUNDLE OF DELIGHT was directed in away from the heels of that horse, resulting in PERFECT TO PLAY, which was endeavouring to improve between BUNDLE OF DELIGHT and ATHENA, being steadied for some distance after racing tight between those two runners.
Passing the 75 Metres, the whip carried by K C Leung (COLONEL) became caught up behind Apprentice K H Chan, the rider of CARE FREE PRINCE. COLONEL was then directed out away from the heels of CARE FREE PRINCE passing the 50 Metres due to CARE FREE PRINCE shifting out under pressure. Apprentice Chan was reprimanded and told that he must be aware of his mounts shifting ground and take the necessary measures to straighten them.
Close to the finishing line, COPARTNER ERA raced tight outside MARVELOUS FANS which was directed out by MORE THAN ENOUGH (N Callan) which shifted out under pressure. N Callan was reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to straighten his mounts rather than continue to use the whip. Because of this, MARVELOUS FANS was not able to be fully tested all the way to the end of the race.
Z Purton reported that after MERRYGOWIN was checked near the 800 Metres, the horse came off the bridle and did not travel well. He said he shifted MERRYGOWIN to the outside of COPARTNER ERA approaching the 500 Metres and obtained clear running, however, the horse again quickly came off the bridle and then over the concluding stages gave ground. He added that the incident at the 800 Metres, combined with the fact that MERRYGOWIN was having its first start of the season, indicated to him that the horse would improve for today’s race. A veterinary inspection of MERRYGOWIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MERRYGOWIN, which was eased down over the concluding stages, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MERRYGOWIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
COPARTNER ERA, HANG’S DECISION and MORE THAN ENOUGH were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (113) THE PREMIER BOWL (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Group Two 1200 m

RATTAN was checked and lost ground on jumping when crowded for room between PERFECT MATCH and VOYAGE WARRIOR which shifted out.
In the early stages, despite being ridden along, HOT KING PRAWN failed to muster speed and approaching the 1100 Metres was shifted across behind PERFECT MATCH to obtain cover.
After being crossed by COMPUTER PATCH passing the 900 Metres, BIG PARTY was awkwardly placed behind that horse.
BIG PARTY had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Approaching the 300 Metres, HOT KING PRAWN raced tight outside VOYAGE WARRIOR which got its head on the side and lay out.
Passing the 100 Metres, COMPUTER PATCH (K Teetan) got its head on the side and shifted out under pressure, requiring its rider to correct his mount. As he corrected COMPUTER PATCH, K Teetan dropped his right rein which he was able to regather close to the finishing line.
When questioned regarding the performance of PERFECT MATCH, A Badel stated that after being able to obtain a good position in the early stages, PERFECT MATCH travelled satisfactorily until the 500 Metres. He said at this stage he had to commence riding PERFECT MATCH along as the horse was reluctant to maintain its position to the outside of COMPUTER PATCH. He said, despite being vigorously ridden rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, PERFECT MATCH did not respond to his riding and then over the concluding stages was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race. He added that in its barrier trial in the lead up to today’s race, the horse had performed only fairly but well enough to suggest that it would be competitive in today’s race. A veterinary inspection of PERFECT MATCH immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT MATCH will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the improved performance of WISHFUL THINKER today compared to its most recent start, Trainer C H Yip state that at its last start over 1000 Metres he asked the rider to have the horse as close as possible so that WISHFUL THINKER did not have too much to do over the latter stages. He said after being crowded for room on jumping in that race, WISHFUL THINKER was then ridden along to make up lost ground and because of this, in his opinion, the horse was then not able to finish off the race over the latter stages. He said as WISHFUL THINKER had carried blinkers for a considerable time, he elected to remove the blinkers from the horse for today’s race in the hope that this would have a positive effect on its performance. He added Jockey K C Leung rode the horse in a turf gallop last Thursday and Jockey Leung reported that WISHFUL THINKER had galloped very well and, based on this piece of work and Jockey Leung’s feedback, he anticipated that WISHFUL THINKER would improve in today’s race.
WISHFUL THINKER and COMPUTER PATCH were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (114) TAI WAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1600 m

LEADING FORTUNE shifted out at the start and bumped ALLOY STAR, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
EZRA began awkwardly.
SALTO OLIMPICO and DECISIVE ACTION bumped at the start.
Shortly after the start, PRETTY BAUHINIA and EZRA made contact.
From the outside barriers, SALTO OLIMPICO and HAPPY WIN WIN were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1400 Metres, DECISIVE ACTION was awkwardly placed inside the heels of HAPPY WIN WIN.
After the 1000 Metres, PRETTY BAUHINIA was left racing wide and without cover.
Near the 800 Metres, FAST PACE was left racing wide and without cover.
INDIGENOUS STAR had some difficulty obtaining clear running passing the 350 Metres.
Passing the 250 Metres, HAPPY WIN WIN was steadied when crowded for room between SEAWEED FORTUNE which shifted out away from FAST PACE and DECISIVE ACTION which shifted in marginally before being corrected.
When questioned, Z Purton stated that, from the wide barrier, he was instructed to ride DECISIVE ACTION patiently in the early stages to have the horse finish off the race better than it had been recently. He said in a number of races when ridden to take up a forward position, DECISIVE ACTION had not closed off and it was therefore felt that riding it more conservatively from the wide barrier would provide the horse with the best opportunity to race well. He added however he is of the view that DECISIVE ACTION can also be ridden in a more prominent position, given a good barrier and if the circumstances of the race allow.
After the race, A Hamelin explained that he was asked to ride EZRA positively from barrier 9 and obtain a position behind the leaders if possible. He said after having to ride his mount along for some distance in the early stages to cross PRETTY BAUHINIA, EZRA then travelled keenly when racing outside the lead in the middle stages. He said because of the amount of use that he had to make of EZRA, combined with the horse then not settling, EZRA was consequently not able to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of EZRA immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of METHANE and CIRCUIT NUMBER ONE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SEAWEED FORTUNE, BULLETPROOF and DECISIVE ACTION were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (115) SHA TIN WAI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

NOBLE CONSORT was withdrawn on 15.10.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lung infection and lame left fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ONE HAPPY STAR. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE CONSORT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SPARKY STAR began only fairly and then shortly after the start was shifted in away from the heels of TRIPLE TRIPLE.
RHAPSODY began awkwardly and then shortly after the start was crowded for room between RIGHTEOUS WIN and RED MAJESTY which shifted out.
From wide barriers, GRATWICK and HONEST WAY were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.
Passing the 1000 Metres, CHEERFUL DAYS shifted in towards the heels of SUPER RED DRAGON when racing in restricted room between that horse and RHAPSODY and as a consequence became unbalanced and lost ground.
Approaching the 900 Metres, CHEERFUL DAYS, which was racing greenly, became unbalanced and lost ground when reluctant to hold its position between SPARKY STAR and WINNING STEED. When CHEERFUL DAYS lost ground, ABOVE ALL was shifted out away from the heels of that horse and bumped GRATWICK which was hampered and shifted out, causing HONEST WAY to be also hampered and taken wider. HONEST WAY was then shifted across behind GRATWICK and ABOVE ALL to obtain cover.
Passing the 900 Metres, RHAPSODY commenced to travel keenly and shifted out abruptly away from the heels of RED MAJESTY, resulting in RIGHTEOUS WIN being checked and losing ground when crowded for room inside SHANGHAI POWER. As the Stewards were satisfied that this incident was as a result of RHAPSODY over-racing at this stage, no further action was taken.
Passing the 700 Metres, CHEERFUL DAYS, ABOVE ALL and GRATWICK raced tight.
After the 600 Metres, SUPER RED DRAGON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TRIPLE TRIPE when racing keenly.
At the 350 Metres, RIGHTEOUS WIN was awkwardly placed outside the heels of SPARKY STAR which shifted out.
Passing the 300 Metres, RHAPSODY was bumped by RED MAJESTY which was taken out by SUPER RED DRAGON which improved into tight running on the outside of DIAMOND PEGASUS.
Throughout the race, SHANGHAI POWER travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned regarding his riding out CHEERFUL DAYS over the concluding stages, C Y Ho stated that the horse, which was having its first race start today, raced very greenly in the early and middle stages and was reluctant to hold its position when racing amongst horses. He said he balanced up his mount after the 600 Metres and commenced to ride CHEERFUL DAYS along rounding the Home Turn and it commenced to finish off the race well. He said after the 200 Metres he attempted to improve between TRIPLE TRIPLE and DIAMOND PEGASUS, however, DIAMOND PEGASUS was taken in by SUPER RED DRAGON near the 150 Metres which resulted in CHEERFUL DAYS being initially disappointed for this run. He said after shifting out away from the heels of TRIPLE TRIPLE passing the 100 Metres, CHEERFUL DAYS, which was finishing off the race strongly, improved into tight running inside DIAMOND PEGASUS and behind ONE HAPPY STAR. He added he shifted away from the heels of ONE HAPPY STAR approaching the 50 Metres to trail the eventual winner SUPER RED DRAGON and he looked to his outside to establish whether it was available to him to shift further to the outside of SUPER RED DRAGON. He said at this stage DIAMOND PEGASUS was racing immediately to the outside of CHEERFUL DAYS and inside WINNING STEED which was improving its position to the outside of DIAMOND PEGASUS. He said he felt that to have shifted CHEERFUL DAYS to the outside of SUPER RED DRAGON would have caused interference to DIAMOND PEGASUS given where that horse and WINNING STEED were positioned and therefore he was not able to shift to the outside of SUPER RED DRAGON over the concluding stages. He said these circumstances resulted in CHEERFUL DAYS not being able to be properly tested over the final 100 Metres and also not being able to be ridden out to the end of the race. After viewing the videos and considering Jockey Ho’s evidence, the Stewards accepted his explanation.
After the race, A Hamelin stated that after initially deciding to ride ABOVE ALL forward during pre-race discussions with connections, it was felt that too much use would have to be made of the horse in the early stages and as there did not appear to be any disadvantage racing from off the speed today, it was decided to shift the horse across behind runners in the early stages and obtain cover. He said after getting further out of its ground in the early stages than had been intended, ABOVE ALL was nonetheless disappointing in today’s race as the horse did not close off as it did at its first race start. A veterinary inspection of ABOVE ALL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
TRIPLE TRIPLE, SUPER RED DRAGON and ONE HAPPY STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (116) SHING MUN RIVER CHANNEL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

SUPER KIN and FORTUNE HAPPINESS (J Moreira) were checked on jumping when crowded for room between STRIKING MR C which shifted out away from DOLLAR REWARD and RESOLUTE which, after bumping with HERO STAR on jumping, shifted in and then shifted in further when unbalanced as a result of contact on the hindquarters from FORTUNE HAPPINESS. RESOLUTE then momentarily raced tight inside HERO STAR which shifted in and then shifted in further after becoming unbalanced when bumped on the hindquarters by RESOLUTE. J Moreira stated that after becoming badly unbalanced in this incident and losing ground, FORTUNE HAPPINESS did not travel well when racing in a midfield position. He said the horse appeared to resent the kickback and did not finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE HAPPINESS immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE HAPPINESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUNNY AND GOLD began awkwardly and bumped the outside of its barrier stall.
STAR SUPERIOR shifted out at the start, resulting in SUPER ALLIANCES being taken out onto GO BALLISTIC and SPEED TO EXCEED. After this, from wide barriers, SUPER ALLIANCES and GO BALLISTIC were shifted across behind runners.
After the 800 Metres, STAR SUPERIOR was left racing wide and without cover.
After the race, M F Poon reported that SPEED TO EXCEED lay out throughout the race when racing wide and without cover.
C Schofield, the rider of SUPER KIN, stated that he commenced to ride his mount along after the 700 Metres to maintain its position. He said SUPER KIN lay out rounding the Home Turn and immediately came under heavy pressure. He said despite being ridden along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, SUPER KIN gave ground and did not feel comfortable in its action. He said for this reason he eased the horse down over the final 200 Metres. A veterinary inspection of SUPER KIN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER KIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
After the race, B Shinn (STRIKING MR C) stated that after travelling well outside the leader GOODLUCK GOODLUCK in the early and middle stages, STRIKING MR C initially quickened well rounding the Home Turn, however, then came under heavy pressure in the early part of the Straight and gave ground noticeably over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of STRIKING MR C immediately following the race found that horse to be a "roarer”, the first occasion that the horse had been so reported since 8 May 2019.
Also after the race, it was reported that HERO STAR was found to have an epiglottic entrapment.
A veterinary inspection of GOODLUCK GOODLUCK and SUNNY AND GOLD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
RESOLUTE and SUPER ALLIANCES were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (117) THE ORIENTAL WATCH SHA TIN TROPHY (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Group Two 1600 m

HARMONY VICTORY was slow to begin.

Near the 1300 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY got its head up when awkwardly placed behind KA YING STAR. CHAMPION’S WAY then proved very difficult to settle for some distance approaching and passing the 1100 Metres which resulted in CHAMPION’S WAY shifting ground on a number of occasions when being checked away from the heels of KA YING STAR.
After the 350 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY and BEAUTY GENERATION bumped on two occasions as CHAMPION’S WAY shifted to the outside of KA YING STAR to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 300 Metres, M F Poon dropped his right rein.
Passing the 300 Metres, CHEFANO shifted out and bumped HARMONY VICTORY which became unbalanced.
Near the 50 Metres, CHAMPION’S WAY got its head on the side and shifted out abruptly, requiring its rider to stop riding and straighten.
Throughout the race, SOUTHERN LEGEND travelled wide and without cover.
After the race, Z Purton stated that BEAUTY GENERATION was disappointing in today’s race. He said the horse came under pressure after the 800 Metres to hold its position outside KA YING STAR and then did not quicken when asked in the early part of the Straight. He said he was unable to prevent CHAMPION’S WAY from shifting out from his inside in the early part of the Straight and the horse then finished off the race one-paced. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY GENERATION immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GOLDEN SIXTY and KA YING STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (118) FO TAN HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 2 1200 m

Apprentice C Wong (UTOPIA LIFE) was fined $2,000 for initially presenting himself to be weighed out with the incorrect saddle cloth number.

Passing the 1000 Metres, ENCORE BOY raced tight inside KINGS SHIELD.
Making the turn near the 700 Metres, SUNNY BOY got its head on the side, lay in and bumped the running rail. This resulted in SUNNY BOY becoming badly unbalanced and losing ground. RACING FIGHTER, which was following SUNNY BOY, also lay in at the same point and made contact with the running rail and became unbalanced.
After the race, A Badel (CALIFORNIA CONCORD) was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of the horse which was racing in Class 2 for the first time today. A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA CONCORD immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SUNNY BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
WILL POWER and ENCORE BOY were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (119) PAI TAU HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

MASTER ALBERT began awkwardly.
GLORIFIED FIRE began only fairly and then lost ground after shifting out and bumping the hindquarters of HAPPY WARRIOR which became unbalanced.
ORION PATCH and SHOUSON made contact on jumping.
From the outside barriers, BRIGHT VISION and STARZ HERO were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, V Borges (MASTER ALBERT) adjusted his left foot in the stirrup iron.
Near the 1050 Metres, CHICKEN DANCE was crowded for room between MOERAKI and MASTER ALBERT which initially shifted in and then was taken in by SHOUSON (Apprentice C Wong) which shifted in. This resulted in CHICKEN DANCE and MASTER ALBERT being crowded for room and CHICKEN DANCE losing ground. V Borges was advised to ensure that he leaves comfortable racing room for runners to his inside in similar circumstances whilst Apprentice Wong was reprimanded and told to exercise more care when shifting ground in similar circumstances. After the race, it was reported that SHOUSON had sustained wounds to the right hind limb.
After the 1000 Metres, CIRCUIT SIX, which was travelling keenly, was inconvenienced by BRIGHT VISION which shifted in away from the heels of HAPPY WARRIOR (H T Mo) which, after shifting in, was straightened to relieve the tightening. H T Mo was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
Making the turn near the 900 Metres, SHOUSON was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SCORES OF FUN, shifted out and raced tight inside GLORIFIED FIRE. MASTER ALBERT, which was following SHOUSON, got its head up when being checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence.
Near the 800 Metres, TRANSCENDENT lost ground when checked as a result of being crowded for room inside MOERAKI which, after initially shifting in away from SCORES OF FUN, then shifted in further when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WINNING DREAMER. As the Stewards were of the opinion that the racing manners of MOERAKI had been the cause of this incident rather than carelessness being exhibited by any rider, no further action was taken.
Rounding the Home Turn, MOERAKI was awkwardly placed inside the hindquarters of SCORES OF FUN after attempting to improve into tight running between that horse and WINNING DREAMER. This resulted in MOERAKI being held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.
Throughout the race, GLORIFIED FIRE travelled wide and without cover and subsequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of GLORIFIED FIRE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of GLORIFIED FIRE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, GLORIFIED FIRE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
WINNING DREAMER and SCORES OF FUN were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (120) SHA TIN HOI HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1400 m

MARVEL DRAGON was withdrawn on 17.10.20 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (colic) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter EMERALD SPUR (C Y Ho). Before allowed to race again, MARVEL DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
EMERALD SPUR and ARMOR STAR bumped at the start. ARMOR STAR then shifted out and inconvenienced TELECOM ELITE.
From the outside barrier, ROMANTIC COMBO was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Near the 1300 Metres, CHARIZARD was checked when crowded for room between SMART PATCH and HEZA BEAUTY which, when being shifted across to race behind PRESIDENT’S CHOICE, got its head on the side and shifted in abruptly as a result of being checked away from the heels of that horse which at this stage was being steadied in an attempt to obtain cover. As the Stewards were satisfied that the racing manners of HEZA BEAUTY, together with PRESIDENT’S CHOICE being steadied in advance of that horse, had been the reason for HEZA BEAUTY shifting in abruptly rather than any carelessness on the part of its rider, no further action was taken.
C Schofield (TAKING AIM) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1150 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of THE HULK, causing that horse to be taken in onto SMART PATCH which was unnecessarily hampered and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. In this incident, SMART PATCH shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of TELECOM ELITE which became unbalanced. CHARIZARD, which was following TELECOM ELITE, was hampered in consequence. C Schofield was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Wednesday, 11 November 2020 and to expire on Sunday, 15 November 2020 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Schofield was fined $25,000.
After the 1100 Metres, THE HULK and PRESIDENT’S CHOICE were left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the turn near the 900 Metres, TELECOM ELITE commenced to prove difficult to settle and shifted out away from the heels of TOP SCORE, resulting in SMART PATCH being taken out onto PRESIDENT’S CHOICE. HEZA BEAUTY, which was following SMART PATCH, was checked away from the heels of that horse in consequence. CHARIZARD, which was following TELECOM ELITE, was inconvenienced in consequence as was GIFT OF LIFELINE.
Passing the 400 Metres, PRESIDENT’S CHOICE was awkwardly placed outside the heels of THE HULK which was taken out marginally by TOP SCORE.
Close to the finishing line, GIFT OF LIFELINE raced tight outside ROMANTIC COMBO which, when closing off the race strongly, was shifted to the outside of HEZA BEAUTY which lay in under pressure over the concluding stages.
After the race, M Chadwick was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of CIRCUIT HASSLER. He said he raced with cover behind the eventual winner HEZA BEAUTY and immediately shifted to the outside of that horse rounding the Home Turn, however, CIRCUIT HASSLER did not show the same turn of foot as HEZA BEAUTY and that horse was able to establish a margin on CIRCUIT HASSLER. He said after this CIRCUIT HASSLER did not finish off the race as well as expected and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of CIRCUIT HASSLER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of PRESIDENT’S CHOICE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of ARMOR STAR immediately following the race found that horse to have bled from both nostrils.
ARMOR STAR, HEZA BEAUTY and THE HULK were sent for sampling.
