T Piccone (KIRAM) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 350 Metres he directed his mount to the inside of A A AGILITY when not clear of ALEE KING PRAWN, resulting in ALEE KING PRAWN being crowded for room and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. T Piccone was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 28 March 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 1 April 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In addition, Jockey Piccone was fined $12,500. BERLIN TANGO was checked away from the heels of GENERAL’S DELIGHT (M Chadwick) approaching the 150 Metres when disappointed for running inside that horse. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that at no stage did BERLIN TANGO establish running to the inside of GENERAL’S DELIGHT, nonetheless M Chadwick was advised to make every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances.
Passing the 200 Metres, SOLAR WAI WAI raced tight inside THE ROCK which shifted in marginally.
Over the concluding stages, BERLIN TANGO raced close to the heels of STAR SHINE and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, SIMPLY BRILLIANT travelled wide and without cover and after the 500 Metres commenced to give ground and subsequently finished tailed out. A veterinary inspection of SIMPLY BRILLIANT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SIMPLY BRILLIANT was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SIMPLY BRILLIANT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SUNSHINE WARRIOR, J Moreira stated that after being able to obtain a position behind THE ROCK one horse off the rail near the 1300 Metres, SUNSHINE WARRIOR did not travel as strongly as he anticipated. He said SUNSHINE WARRIOR travelled only fairly in the middle stages and after shifting to the outside of SIMPLY BRILLIANT after the 500 Metres to improve around that horse which was giving ground, he became concerned that SUNSHINE WARRIOR was not quickening as well as anticipated. He added he placed the horse under heavy pressure rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight, however, SUNSHINE WARRIOR did not respond to his riding and was very disappointing in the manner in which it failed to make ground over the latter stages. A veterinary inspection of SUNSHINE WARRIOR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of SUNSHINE WARRIOR, favourite for tonight’s race, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUNSHINE WARRIOR will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
SUNSHINE WARRIOR, SOLAR WAI WAI and FAST MOST FURIOUS were sent for sampling.

Near the 950 Metres, PRINCE OF BON BON and MR LUMIERES bumped as PRINCE OF BON BON raced tight inside LITTLE BIRD.
Passing the 900 Metres, PRINCE OF BON BON was awkwardly placed outside the heels of MR LUMIERES when being shifted across behind that horse.
Rounding the Home Turn, JAZZ STEED raced close to the heels of ORION PATCH.
Approaching the 200 Metres, LITTLE BIRD was momentarily crowded for room inside ORION PATCH which got its head on the side and shifted in away from JAZZ STEED as that horse raced tight inside MR LUMIERES which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AQUILA as that horse was giving ground. ORION PATCH was then shifted out abruptly passing the 200 Metres to relieve the tightening to LITTLE BIRD.
After the 150 Metres, GENTLE BREEZE shifted out and away from TELECOM SMART which shifted out. Then near the 50 Metres, GENTLE BREEZE and TELECOM SMART bumped.
Throughout the race, FLYING GENIUS travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of BE READY, MR LUMIERES, AQUILA and ORION PATCH immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
JAZZ STEED, FLYING GENIUS and NORDIC WELLSTAR were sent for sampling.

Race:5 (455) VILLAGE HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

TWINX lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected, began very awkwardly and lost ground.
INFINITE POWER began very awkwardly, shifted in abruptly at the start and bumped the hindquarters of VIVA CHEF, causing VIVA CHEF to become unbalanced and INFINITE POWER to lose ground. VIVA CHEF then shifted in and inconvenienced TOWARDS SUCCESS which began only fairly.
VERY SWEET ORANGE and FORTUNE CARRIER bumped at the start.
From the outside barrier, RAGING BLAZE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After being steadied in the early stages, HARMONY FIRE was left racing wide and without cover after the 700 Metres.
Approaching the 800 Metres, OVERSUBSCRIBED was crowded for room inside RAGING BLAZE which got its head on the side and lay in away from GOUTEN OF GARO despite the efforts of its rider. When OVERSUBSCRIBED was awkwardly placed inside RAGING BLAZE, that horse shifted in, resulting in TOWARDS SUCCESS being inconvenienced.
Making the turn near the 600 Metres, RAGING BLAZE commenced to travel keenly and got its head on the side when being checked away from the heels of CANTSTOPTHEFEELING, causing RAGING BLAZE to shift in and crowd OVERSUBSCRIBED which resulted in both OVERSUBSCRIBED and RAGING BLAZE being hampered.
Passing the 300 Metres, RAGING BLAZE got its head on the side and lay in under pressure. Then over the concluding stages, RAGING BLAZE again got its head on the side and lay in away from OVERSUBSCRIBED, resulting in RAGING BLAZE being awkwardly placed outside the heels of VERY SWEET ORANGE and not being able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
Passing the 250 Metres, INFINITE POWER became unbalanced when being shifted to the inside of FORTUNE CARRIER which at this stage lay in when commencing to give ground.
Passing the 200 Metres, A Hamelin (CANTSTOPTHEFEELING) dropped his whip.
When questioned, M F Poon stated that he had been given the same instructions on how to ride OVERSUBSCRIBED tonight that he had been given when he had previously ridden the horse, that being not to ride his mount along in the early stages to ensure that it did not over-race. He said OVERSUBSCRIBED began only fairly tonight and therefore he shifted his mount across behind runners in the early stages to obtain a position closer to the rail.
When questioned, B Shinn stated that as GOUTEN OF GARO had drawn wide and there were a considerable number of speed horses drawn more favourably than GOUTEN OF GARO and it was felt that if he were to ride his mount along in the early stages to take up a forward position as usual, the horse would likely be left racing very wide and without cover. He said therefore he was asked to obtain cover on GOUTEN OF GARO in tonight’s race to provide the horse with the best opportunity to finish off the race. He said in accordance with his instructions, he steadied his mount in the early stages to obtain a trailing position.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FORTUNE CARRIER, Z Purton stated that as he advised after its last start FORTUNE CARRIER is inexperienced and therefore it was felt that dropping the horse back in distance to 1000 Metres would allow it to travel better as it has sufficient early speed to be able to take up a forward position. He said after riding his mount along in the early stages, he was able to shift across and race outside the lead after the 800 Metres. He said FORTUNE CARRIER travelled only fairly in the middle stages and then came under pressure rounding the Home Turn. He said FORTUNE CARRIER raced greenly when under pressure in the Straight and shifted ground on a number of occasions and then did not finish off the race. He added whilst FORTUNE CARRIER should develop in the future, at this stage of its career, it is too immature to be able to finish off its races strongly and FORTUNE CARRIER would benefit from racing. A veterinary inspection of FORTUNE CARRIER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of FORTUNE CARRIER, favourite for tonight’s race and which finished towards the rear of the field, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, FORTUNE CARRIER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of TWINX immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FORTUNE CARRIER, HARMONY FIRE and CANTSTOPTHEFEELING were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (456) BLUE POOL HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 1 1200 m

EXPLOSIVE WITNESS and SHINING ACE were steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
For some distance after the 1100 Metres, EXPLOSIVE WITNESS got its head up when proving difficult to settle. EXPLOSIVE WITNESS continued to get its head up when proving difficult to settle for some distance in the middle stages.
Making the turn approaching the 1000 Metres, SKY FIELD got its head on the side and lay out towards the heels of BEAUTY APPLAUSE. SKY FIELD was again awkwardly placed inside the heels of BEAUTY APPLAUSE near the 950 Metres.
At the 300 Metres, GOLD CHEST was steadied when disappointed for running between BEAUTY APPLAUSE and AMAZING STAR which was taken out by GRATEFUL HEART (Z Purton). Z Purton was reprimanded and told that whilst the Stewards were satisfied that GOLD CHEST had not fully established running to the outside of AMAZING STAR, nonetheless he must ensure that he makes every endeavour to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.
Approaching the 100 Metres, AMAZING STAR shifted out under pressure and bumped BEAUTY APPLAUSE. BEAUTY APPLAUSE was then shifted in away from the heels of SKY FIELD (A Badel) passing the 100 Metres as that horse shifted in under pressure. In this incident, BEAUTY APPLAUSE shifted in and bumped AMAZING STAR. A Badel was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
When questioned, J Moreira stated that he was instructed to ride BEAUTY APPLAUSE positively in the early stages and it was felt that BEAUTY APPLAUSE would have sufficient speed to be able to lead. He said he was further instructed that if AMAZING STAR pressed forward from the outside barrier, it was acceptable for him to allow that horse to cross and then race behind AMAZING STAR. He said just prior to the start being effected BEAUTY APPLAUSE anticipated the start which resulted in the horse not beginning well and GOLD CHEST, which was drawn immediately to the inside of BEAUTY APPLAUSE, gaining a clear advantage over his mount at the start. He said because of the manner in which BEAUTY APPLAUSE began, he did not believe that it would be in the best interests of the horse to then try and obtain a forward position as this would mean too much use would have to be made of BEAUTY APPLAUSE to obtain a forward position. He added despite BEAUTY APPLAUSE not being able to lead as anticipated tonight, he had previously ridden the horse from off the speed and BEAUTY APPLAUSE had run well, so he was content to allow it to settle in a midfield position albeit that was further back in the field than had been intended. He said the tempo of the early stages was relatively slow and given the circumstances of the race he felt that BEAUTY APPLAUSE finished off the race satisfactorily. A veterinary inspection of BEAUTY APPLAUSE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of EXPLOSIVE WITNESS immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
GRATEFUL HEART, SKY FIELD and STRONGER were sent for sampling.

WON BALL shifted out at the start and bumped HAPPY PROFIT. WON BALL was then crowded for room between HAPPY PROFIT which became unbalanced after being bumped by WON BALL and COLONEL which shifted out. After this, from a wide barrier, WON BALL was steadied to obtain cover.
Approaching the 100 Metres, HAPPY PROFIT, which was giving ground, was bumped by MISTER ARM which was taken out by SMART HUNTER.
After the 100 Metres, RED IMPACT was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of COURAGEOUS DRAGON.
Close to the finishing line, WON BALL was awkwardly placed behind HERO STAR and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
After the race, Z Purton stated that he had to do too much work on HAPPY PROFIT in the early and middle stages to cross runners to his inside to obtain a position with cover near the 600 Metres. He said because of the amount of use he had to make of HAPPY PROFIT, the horse was then not able to finish off its race. A veterinary inspection of HAPPY PROFIT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
After the race, it was reported that WINNING FEELING had bled from both nostrils.
A veterinary inspection of CARRY THE DIAMOND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SCORES OF FUN, V Borges stated that it was intended for the horse to be ridden in a forward position. He said after beginning awkwardly, he rode SCORES OF FUN along for some distance in the early stages, however, the horse did not show any early speed as anticipated. He said making the turn after the 1100 Metres SCORES OF FUN was awkwardly placed outside the heels of RACING FIGHTER when being steadied in an attempt to obtain a trailing position behind that horse. He said SCORES OF FUN commenced to travel keenly passing the 1000 Metres before settling and then travelling satisfactorily in the middle stages. He said at the entrance to the Straight he was able to obtain clear running inside PRESIDENT’S CHOICE, however, SCORES OF FUN did not quicken as he had hoped. He added in the Straight SCORES OF FUN finished off the race only fairly and, in his opinion, was disappointing. A veterinary inspection of SCORES OF FUN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of SINCERE BOY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

In the early stages, CINQUANTE CINQ, FLYING SWORD and TSAR were all shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
Passing the winning post on the first occasion, TASHIDELEK, when racing wide, was allowed to improve its position to race outside the lead near the 1100 Metres at which stage CELESTIAL POWER was left racing wide and without cover.
