Race:1 (787) RACING GOES ON 1600M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1600 m

AFRICAN SKY shifted out at the start and bumped FORTUNE TRIPLE.
RED ZOFFANY and SPEED FORCE bumped at the start.
DAZZLING FEELING and SMART THINKER began awkwardly.
From the outside barriers, SEA MONARCH and JOY MASTER were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
After travelling a short distance, FORMULA EXCEL was steadied away from the heels of STRAPPING BAUHINIA (H T Mo) which shifted in when not properly clear. H T Mo was reprimanded and advised to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in future.
RED ZOFFANY travelled keenly in the early stages when being steadied to obtain cover.
SEA MONARCH lost its right hind plate approaching the 1200 Metres.
For some distance approaching and passing the 1200 Metres, AFRICAN SKY travelled very keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind STRAPPING BAUHINIA. After being crossed by STRAPPING BAUHINIA near the 1150 Metres, AFRICAN SKY was steadied away from that horse when continuing to travel keenly.
After the 1200 Metres, RIGHTEOUS WIN was left racing wide and without cover.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, SEA MONARCH got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SMART THINKER.
RED ZOFFANY made the Home Turn awkwardly.
Approaching the 200 Metres, FORMULA EXCEL raced tight inside DAZZLING FEELING which was then corrected by its rider. Then passing the 150 Metres, FORMULA EXCEL was steadied when crowded for room between RIGHTEOUS WIN and DAZZLING FEELING (N Callan) which shifted in under pressure. N Callan was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mounts.
Close to the finishing line, CIGAR BUDDIES was awkwardly placed inside the heels of RED ZOFFANY which got its head on the side and lay in. RED ZOFFANY was then straightened by its rider passing the winning post.
After the race, J Moreira stated that due to the slow tempo in the middle stages, FORMULA EXCEL travelled keenly. He said after shifting FORMULA EXCEL out at the entrance to the Straight, his mount gave him a limited response, however, came under pressure near the 300 Metres. He said although FORMULA EXCEL was hampered passing the 150 Metres, he was of the opinion that the horse was disappointing in its failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of FORMULA EXCEL immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
When questioned, Apprentice C L Chau stated that after the 400 Metres he directed SPEED FORCE to the inside of RED ZOFFANY with a view to obtaining clear running between that horse and CIGAR BUDDIES which was racing to his inside. He said he did consider shifting in further to improve into tight running inside CIGAR BUDDIES, but was of the opinion that there was a chance that CIGAR BUDDIES would shift in which would break his momentum and therefore he felt that the better option was to wait for a run to develop between CIGAR BUDDIES and RED ZOFFANY. He added after being held up behind CIGAR BUDDIES after the 300 Metres, a run had not eventuated between those two horses and therefore he elected to shift SPEED FORCE back to the inside of CIGAR BUDDIES to obtain clear running.
A veterinary inspection of SMART THINKER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
FORMULA EXCEL, JOY MASTER and DIAMOND STAR were sent for sampling.
<2/7/2021 Additional Veterinary Reports>SMART THINKER, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at that time there were no significant findings. SMART THINKER was again examined by the Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer C H Yip this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in its left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, SMART THINKER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:2 (788) WORLD-CLASS LEADERSHIP 1200M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 5 1200 m

FOR FUN’S SAKE lifted its front feet off the ground as the start was effected and then was crowded for room between GARLIC HERO and ONE STEP AHEAD which shifted out.
LUCKY TURBO began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped TELECOM MISSILE.
VOYAGE STAR shifted out at the start and inconvenienced DESTINE JEWELLERY.
WAYFOONG STAR was bumped by ALLOY KING on jumping. After this, WAYFOONG STAR was steadied with a view to obtaining cover. Approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, WAYFOONG STAR travelled keenly when being steadied to obtain cover behind M M JOHNNY. WAYFOONG STAR then made the turn near the 900 Metres awkwardly and got its head on the side and lay out approaching and passing the 600 Metres.
Despite being ridden along for some distance in the early stages, M M JOHNNY failed to muster speed.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, LUCKY TURBO was momentarily steadied away from the heels of TELECOM MISSILE which shifted in. FOR FUN’S SAKE, which was following LUCKY TURBO, was inconvenienced in consequence.
Making the turn at the 900 Metres, JUNGLE BLAZE and TELECOM MISSILE raced tight.
Passing the 900 Metres, GARLIC HERO became unbalanced of its own accord and near the 850 Metres momentarily raced tight inside GOLDEN MISSION which was then corrected by its rider and shifted out.
Passing the 700 Metres, LUCKY TURBO got its head up on a number of occasions when racing ungenerously. Then near the 650 Metres, LUCKY TURBO shifted out and bumped DESTINE JEWELLERY which was hampered when taken out across the heels of M M JOHNNY.
At the entrance to the Straight, JUNGLE BLAZE was awkwardly placed behind GARLIC HERO.
ONE STEP AHEAD had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the 200 Metres and then passing the 200 Metres was shifted to the outside of VOYAGE STAR after being disappointed for running between that horse which lay in and GOLDEN MISSION.
Passing the 200 Metres, FOR FUN’S SAKE race tight outside ALLOY KING which shifted out marginally.
Throughout the race, ALLOY KING travelled wide and without cover.
The declaration of weighed-in was deferred after the Stewards were advised by the Clerk of the Scales, Mr V W S Poon, that M F Poon, the rider of M M JOHNNY, which finished 10th, could not draw the horse’s correct weight of 127 lbs which incorporated Jockey Poon’s 2 lb weight allowance. Evidence was taken from Jockey Poon, Mr Y S Tsui, the trainer of M M JOHNNY, and Mr Poon. It was established that following the race Jockey Poon weighed in at 125.5 lbs, 1.5 lbs underweight. Rule 113(3) provides that in the event of a jockey being unable to draw the correct weight, the Clerk of the Scales will allow him 1 lb. If he cannot then draw the weight, the horse shall on a sustained protest/objection be disqualified from the race. Acting under the powers of Rule 113(3), the Stewards disqualified M M JOHNNY from this race. At a subsequent inquiry, it was established that after weighing out in a heavier safety vest due to M M JOHNNY’s allocated weight, Jockey Poon then changed the safety vest to a lighter safety vest to check his riding weight for GENERAL TRUMP in Race 3 which was weighted at 117 lbs (115 lbs with the weight allowance). Jockey Poon advised the Stewards that he then neglected to change back into the heavier safety vest which resulted in him weighing in light on M M JOHNNY. Having regard to the difference in weight between the two safety vests, the Stewards were satisfied that Jockey Poon’s failure to change back into the safety vest in which he weighed out for on M M JOHNNY was the reason for him returning underweight. Jockey Poon pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 12(32), the particulars being that he was negligent in the performance of his duties which led to a breach of Rule 113(3) in that after weighing out to ride M M JOHNNY in Race 2, he did negligently change the safety vest with which he weighed out at to a lighter safety vest which resulted in him weighing in light after the race and which resulted in M M JOHNNY being disqualified from the race. After considering the circumstances of this case, the Stewards decided that a penalty of suspension from riding in races incorporating 3 racedays was appropriate. Given the limited number of racemeetings remaining for the current racing season, the Stewards were of the opinion that the appropriate penalty was for Jockey Poon’s licence to ride in races to be suspended for the Happy Valley racemeeting to be conducted on Wednesday, 14 July 2021. In addition, Jockey Poon was fined the sum of $100,000 in lieu of a period of suspension incorporating 2 further racedays.
A veterinary inspection of GARLIC HERO immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
ONE STEP AHEAD, TELECOM MISSILE and VOYAGE STAR were sent for sampling.

Race:3 (789) UNCOMPROMISING INTEGRITY 1200M HANDICAP (Sec2) Class 4 1200 m

FANTASY SPRING began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MY ECSTATIC, resulting in MY ECSTATIC becoming unbalanced and FANTASY SPRING losing ground.
VAST STARLIGHT was steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners from a wide barrier to obtain cover.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, HAPPY DAILY was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of GENERAL TRUMP which shifted in. After this, HAPPY DAILY travelled keenly.
When being steadied to obtain cover after the 1100 Metres, BOOMING WELL got its head up on a number of occasions and travelled very keenly.
HAPPY DAILY made the turn at the 900 Metres awkwardly.
Passing the 800 Metres, AUGUST MOON, which was travelling keenly, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of STREET SCREAM.
Passing the 250 Metres, WINSTON’S LAD was shifted out to obtain clear running.
Throughout the race, MY ECSTATIC and GENERAL TRUMP travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of HAPPY DAILY and HAPPY GATHERING immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
STREET SCREAM and MY ECSTATIC were sent for sampling.

Race:4 (790) SERVING THE COMMUNITY 1000M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1000 m

DIVINE ERA began awkwardly and bumped the outside of its gate, resulting in the horse shifting in and bumping the hindquarters of REGENCY STAR, causing both horses to become unbalanced.
GLORIOUS BAUHINIA began only fairly and then was crowded for room on jumping between JOYFUL WIN which shifted in and GLENEALY GENERALS which was taken out by CARRY THE DIAMOND.
RAGING BLAZE was crowded for room on jumping between YOUNG VICTORY and GOODMANSHIP which got its head on the side and shifted in. This resulted in YOUNG VICTORY becoming badly unbalanced and shifting in which caused GREEN ENVY to be momentarily crowded for room outside EVER JOY.
Over the last 100 Metres, GOODMANSHIP raced tight outside the heels of JOYFUL WIN which lay out under pressure.
YOUNG VICTORY was held up for clear running over the concluding stages and consequently was not able to be ridden out all the way to the end of the race.
A veterinary inspection of REGENCY STAR and GREEN ENVY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SUMMIT CHEERS and INFINITY WIN were sent for sampling.
<2/7/2021 Additional Veterinary Reports>The Veterinary Surgeon reported that GLORIOUS BAUHINIA had sustained a left front tendon injury on the morning after racing. Before being allowed to race again, GLORIOUS BAUHINIA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Race:5 (791) CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT 1200M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1200 m

EXCELLENT CHARIOT was crowded for room on jumping between AMIGOS GIGGLE and TOUCH FAITH which got its head on the side and shifted out.
AION was crowded for room on jumping between THETA HEDGE which was taken out by GREAT HARVEST and INFINITE POWER which shifted in.
From the outside barrier, LUCKY TREASURE was shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.
After the 800 Metres, XPONENTIAL, which was being hard ridden to maintain its position, got its head on the side and was momentarily awkwardly placed inside the heels of EXCELLENT CHARIOT.
After the 500 Metres, THETA HEDGE raced tight between TELECOM ELITE and EXCELLENT CHARIOT which improved into tight running to the outside of AMIGOS GIGGLE.
Passing the 400 Metres, XPONENTIAL was awkwardly placed close to the heels of THETA HEDGE when held up for clear running. XPONENTIAL was then shifted to the outside of THETA HEDGE passing the 300 Metres to obtain clear running.
Close to the finishing line, AMIGO GIGGLES was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GREAT HARVEST and consequently was not able to be fully tested all the way to the end of the race.
Throughout the race, TELECOM ELITE and THETA HEDGE travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of XPONENTIAL and SPARKLING STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
EXCELLENT CHARIOT and GREAT HARVEST were sent for sampling.

Race:6 (792) THE GUANGDONG-HONG KONG CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 4 1800 m

DRAGON COMMANDER and RED ELYSEES bumped at the start.
Shortly after the start, JOYFUL HEART was crowded for room between STUNNING IMPACT and TAILOR MADE which shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarters by JOYFUL HEART.
Passing the 300 Metres, HANG’S DECISION was shifted in away from the heels of DIVINE UNICORN which was giving ground.
Passing the 150 Metres, STUNNING IMPACT was hampered when shifted in away from the heels of TAILOR MADE (M F Poon) which shifted in under pressure. M F Poon was reprimanded and told to ensure that he makes more endeavour than he did on this occasion to keep his mounts on a straight line.
Close to the finishing line, STUNNING IMPACT was awkwardly placed inside the heels of TAILOR MADE.
For the majority of the race, both DIVINE UNICORN and DIONYSUS COLLIN travelled wide and without cover.
When questioned, H N Wong (OFF THE REEL) stated that he was instructed to ride the horse in about a midfield position and with cover if at all possible. He said OFF THE REEL, which was stepping up in distance to 1800 Metres for the first time today, began awkwardly and he immediately commenced to shift his mount across with a view to obtaining cover. He said due to the manner in which OFF THE REEL began, he believed he would have had to restrain the horse in an attempt to obtain a midfield position and given the positioning of horses which were better drawn than OFF THE REEL in the early stages, it would likely have left him racing wide and without cover, therefore he allowed OFF THE REEL to continue forward and race outside the lead after the 1600 Metres which was in a more forward position than had been intended.
A veterinary inspection of SHADOW BREAKER immediately following the race revealed that the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, SHADOW BREAKER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
A veterinary inspection of DIVINE UNICORN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings other than the horse had sustained a minor laceration to the right hind cannon.
STUNNING IMPACT, DRAGON COMMANDER and TAILOR MADE were sent for sampling.

Race:7 (793) THE HONG KONG REUNIFICATION CUP (HANDICAP) (Sec1) Class 2 1800 m

BIGWOOD began only fairly.
ENJOYING shifted out at the start and bumped FLYING QUEST.
From wide barriers, HELENE LEADINGSTAR and LAKESHORE EAGLE were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
A short distance after the start, DELIGHTFUL LAOS was eased away from the heels of CHARITY GO which shifted in.
Near the 650 Metres, LAKESHORE EAGLE was shifted out away from the heels of HELENE LEADINGSTAR after being awkwardly placed behind that horse.
Passing the 400 Metres, DELIGHTFUL LAOS was bumped by BERLIN TANGO which, when attempting to shift to the inside of SUPER FOOTBALL, was awkwardly placed behind that horse which also shifted in.
BERLIN TANGO was held up for clear running passing the 300 Metres when attempting to improve into restricted room between SUPER FOOTBALL and ENJOYING.
Approaching the 200 Metres, CHARITY GO and FLYING QUEST bumped.
Passing the 200 Metres, SUNNY STAR raced tight outside FLYING QUEST which shifted out marginally.
Near the 150 Metres, ENJOYING was shifted out away from the heels of BIGWOOD which, when giving ground, became unbalanced when bumped by BERLIN TANGO.
Over the concluding stages, LOOKING GREAT raced tight outside SUPER FOOTBALL which shifted out under pressure.
After the race, K Teetan reported that although the horse was left racing wide and without cover near the 1000 Metres, in his opinion, SUNNY STAR did not run out the 1800 Metres of today’s race at its first time of asking. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY STAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of HELENE LEADINGSTAR immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
LOOKING GREAT, SUPER FOOTBALL and FLYING QUEST were sent for sampling.

Race:8 (794) RIDING HIGH TOGETHER 1400M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 4 1400 m

Just prior to the start being effected, DURHAM STAR became fractious and then as the gates opened bounded in the air, resulting in the horse losing ground. Before being allowed to race again, DURHAM STAR will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.
SWIFT SPIRIT shifted out at the start and bumped ENJOY MY LIFE.
Shortly after the start, VIVA POPCORN shifted out, resulting in DARCI JOY being crowded for room inside GALLANT CAVALIER. When GALLANT CAVALIER was shifted out to relieve the tightening to DARCI JOY, it shifted out and bumped SEASONS BLISS. After this, DARCI JOY and GALLANT CAVALIER were shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
From the outside barriers, SEASONS BLISS and MELBOURNE HALL were also steadied to obtain cover in the early stages.
H N Wong (SWIFT SPIRIT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 1300 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DARCI JOY, resulting in that horse being unnecessarily hampered, clipping the heels of SWIFT SPIRIT and stumbling. H N Wong was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 11 July 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 15 July 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Wong’s good race riding record.
JADE PHOENIX lost its right front plate approaching the 1100 Metres.
After the 1100 Metres, VIVA POPCORN was left racing wide and without cover.
Making the turn at the 900 Metres, MELBOURNE HALL was taken wider by SEASONS BLISS which made the turn awkwardly.
Near the 850 Metres, AWE, which was travelling keenly, got its head up when racing close to the heels of ULTIMATE GLORY.
VIVA POPCORN lay out making the Home Turn.
At the 400 Metres, THUNDERSTRIKE was shifted in away from the heels of ARMOR STAR.
Z Purton (SPEED FAY FAY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DURHAM STAR, resulting in that horse being hampered and taken in across the rightful running of ARMOR STAR which was checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled. Z Purton was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Sunday, 11 July 2021 and to expire on Thursday, 15 July 2021 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). In assessing penalty, the Stewards took into account Jockey Purton’s good race riding record.
After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SEASONS BLISS at the request of Trainer K H Ting. The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of GALLANT CAVALIER and ENJOY MY LIFE immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in both horses’ tracheas.
SPEED FAY FAY, ULTIMATE GLORY and JADE PHOENIX were sent for sampling.

Race:9 (795) SPORTSMANSHIP 1200M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1200 m

CIRCUIT SIX shifted in at the start and bumped KING’S CAPITAL.
EXCELLENT DADDY shifted out at the start and inconvenienced SPECIAL M. SPECIAL M and EXCELLENT DADDY then bumped again a short distance after the start, resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced.
NOBLE STEED and ROYAL AGILITY bumped at the start.
In the early stages, NOBLE STEED was steadied to obtain cover.
When being steadied in the early stages from a wide barrier, THE GOLDEN SCENERY was bumped by NOBLE STEED shortly after the start.
SPECIAL M was left racing wide and without cover near the 900 Metres.
At the 400 Metres, SPECIAL M was bumped and taken wider by REGENCY BO BO which shifted out from behind EXCELLENT DADDY to obtain clear running.
Over the final 75 Metres, KING’S CAPITAL was held up for clear running and consequently was not able to be ridden out over the concluding stages.
Throughout the race, LUCKY QUALITY travelled wide and without cover.
A veterinary inspection of LUCKY QUALITY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
SPEEDY MOUSE, BIG FORTUNE and THE GOLDEN SCENERY were sent for sampling.

Race:10 (796) BETTER FUTURE 1000M HANDICAP (Sec1) Class 3 1000 m

CRUISING was withdrawn on 29.6.21 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (right front tendon injury). Before being allowed to race again, CRUISING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
FLYING HIGH shifted out at the start and bumped GOOD VIEW CLARICO. FLYING HIGH was then steadied in the early stages and shifted across behind runners to obtain cover.
EMBARKED began only fairly.
UNITED WE STAND and SUPER WIN DRAGON bumped at the start.
IAN began awkwardly and lost ground.
UNITED WE STAND lost its right front plate near the 800 Metres.
B Shinn (GOOD VIEW CLARICO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that approaching the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift out when not clear of UNITED WE STAND, resulting in that horse being checked and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled. In the circumstances, the Stewards believed the appropriate penalty was for B Shinn to be fined the sum of $75,000 in lieu of a period of suspension from riding in races which would incorporate 3 racedays. FLYING HIGH, which was following UNITED WE STAND, was shifted out away from the heels of that horse in consequence, resulting in SUPER WIN DRAGON being inconvenienced.
UNITED WE STAND lost its left hind plate near the 500 Metres.
Approaching the 150 Metres, SUPER WIN DRAGON was shifted in a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Approaching the 100 Metres, GOOD VIEW CLARICO and METRO WARRIOR brushed.
Close to the finishing line, EMBARKED was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SMOKEY BEAR when racing tight outside UNITED WE STAND which shifted out marginally.
Also close to the finishing line, FLYING HIGH was awkwardly placed behind GOOD VIEW CLARICO and consequently was not able to be fully tested over the concluding stages.
After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that FLYING HIGH had sustained a minor laceration to the left hind fetlock.
A veterinary inspection of SEVEN HEAVENS and UNITED WE STAND immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
