Racing Incident Report

INSAYSHABLE shifted in at the start and bumped the hindquarters of ALPHA HEDGE, resulting in INSAYSHABLE becoming unbalanced and losing ground.
From wide barriers, AMAZING ONE PLUS and ENJOYING were shifted across behind runners in the early stages to obtain cover.
NOT USUAL TALENT was also steadied in the early stages to obtain cover.
Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FLYING QUEST raced tight inside ENRICHMENT which was crowded for room inside GREEN LUCK (J Moreira) which shifted in. J Moreira was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances. Then near the 1400 Metres, ENRICHMENT was steadied away from the heels of GREEN LUCK after being awkwardly placed behind that horse. ENRICHMENT continued to be awkwardly placed behind GREEN LUCK for some distance.
SOLAR WAI WAI travelled wide and without cover until the 900 Metres Metres at which stage the horse was ridden forward to obtain the lead approaching the 700 Metres.
Near the 450 Metres, BEAR AGAIN raced tight outside BUDDIES as that horse attempted to improve to the outside of SOLAR WAI WAI. This resulted in BEAR AGAIN becoming unbalanced. When BUDDIES was steadied approaching the 400 Metres when unable to improve between SOLAR WAI WAI and BEAR AGAIN where there was insufficient room, PRECIOUSSHIP, which was following, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse and shifted in marginally, resulting in FLYING QUEST (M F Poon), which was attempting to improve into very tight running inside PRECIOUSSHIP, being severely checked and losing a significant amount of ground. As the Stewards were satisfied that PRECIOUSSHIP did not shift out sufficiently for a horse to comfortably improve its position to its inside, no further action was taken, however, M F Poon was advised to be mindful of the amount of room that is available when improving into tight running. When FLYING QUEST was checked, ENJOYING was shifted out away from the heels of that horse, resulting in AMAZING ONE PLUS having to shift out abruptly away from ENJOYING.
Passing the 150 Metres, AMAZING ONE PLUS and GREEN LUCK bumped.
When questioned regarding the performance of NOT USUAL TALENT, C Schofield was of the opinion that the tempo of the race did not suit his mount. He said due to the modest tempo NOT USUAL TALENT commenced to over-race passing the 1000 Metres and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed behind INSAYSHABLE. He said NOT USUAL TALENT was then left racing wide and without cover after the 700 Metres and when the pace of the race quickened shortly after this, NOT USUAL TALENT came off the bridle and then did not finish off the race. He added whilst NOT USUAL TALENT was disappointing in tonight’s race, he believed the circumstances of the race did not suit his mount. A veterinary inspection of NOT USUAL TALENT immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, NOT USUAL TALENT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of ALPHA HEDGE, C Y Ho stated that after obtaining a good position behind the speed in the early stages, ALPHA HEDGE was left flat-footed when the pace of the race increased near the 700 Metres. He said due to being flat-footed, ALPHA HEDGE was not able to maintain its position inside INSAYSHABLE and that horse was able to shift in to race in front of ALPHA HEDGE approaching the 600 Metres. He said ALPHA HEDGE came under heavy pressure passing the 500 Metres and then did not finish off the race. He said he was of the view that the class of tonight’s race compared to that against which it raced at its last start when successful was significantly stronger and this, in his opinion, accounted for the horse’s failure to finish off the race. A veterinary inspection of ALPHA HEDGE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
A veterinary inspection of FLYING QUEST immediately following the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
BUDDIES and SOLAR WAI WAI were sent for sampling.
