2 6 ORIENTAL (CC202) D Whyte -- Began awkwardly and ridden along to race 1-1/2L off leader on rail through to straight. Responded quite well when asked 300 M out but unable to find an extra gear to match speed with winner and just held onto 2nd.
3 11 MR PRESIDENT (CA178) B Prebble B Broke well from wide draw and raced in a forward position in the early stages. After the 1300 M steadily eased back to midfield on rail. Made headway rounding the home turn. Responded fairly in straight and just failed to grab 2nd.
4 4 MADE IN HONGKONG (CD139) O Doleuze B Raced in a rearward position 3-wide in early stages. After the 1200 M steadily improved to midfield 3-wide. Switched wide on straightening to obtain clear running and only kept on fairly in straight without threatening placegetters.
5 7 PAY-DAY (CD182) F Coetzee -- Shortly after the start was crowded for room and raced in midfield or worse on rail through to straight. Unable to quicken when asked 250 M out and only able to run on evenly to the line.
6 8 STAR OF NORTHERN (CD173) G Schofield B/TT Began fairly and soon raced in midfield or better 2-wide through to straight. Shortly after straightening was checked when disappointed for running. Made little progress when clear running was obtained inside final 200 M.
7 3 JUBILOSO (CD381) G Mosse -- Slow to begin from widest and soon raced at the back closer to rail. Made little progress from a 3-wide position going up the Rock. Kept on same pace in straight and ran past several beaten runners inside final 200 M.
8 1 TELECOM SUPERBOSS (CD180) H W Lai B Began well from wide draw and ridden along to race in a forward position 3-wide without cover. Pushed along at home bend to maintain position whilst hanging out. No extra in straight and kept on one pace to the line.
9 9 GOOD FRIENDS (BV213) M W Leung SR/V/TT Began fairly and steadily settled in a rearward position around 2-wide through to straight. Unable to make any progress when asked 200 M out.
10 5 SHINING GEM (CA180) S K Sit -- Soon settled in a rearward position on rail through to straight. Near the 250 M was checked when rightful running was lost, made no impression thereafter.
11 10 JUST VICTORY (CB216) M Rodd SR Disputed lead in the early stages and shortly after the 1200 M eased back to 1L off leader 2-wide. Under pressure at home turn to maintain position. No extra in straight and steadily dropped out inside final 200 M.
