2 9 PIONERO (CD402) C Soumillon -- Tardy start and soon recovered to race in a handy position on rail. Switched away from the fence on straightening to make its run. Responded well in straight but failed to match speed with winner inside final 150 M.
3 7 LUCKY GUYS (CE016) A Delpech SR Slow to begin and raced in midfield on rail. Near the 800 M hung out and steadied away from heels. Slightly held up in early part of straight. Ran on well when asked 300 M out and just failed to run down 2nd placegetter.
4 14 ACCELERATION (CD400) E Saint-Martin -- Broke fairly from wide draw and niggled along to race midfield or worse around 4 wide with cover through to straight. Took a while to respond when asked 400 M out but made good impression final 200 M to be closest at finish.
5 5 EUPHORIC KID (CB165) B Prebble TT Broke well and soon settled in midfield 2 wide through to straight. Baulked for a run in early part of straight. Responded when clear running was obtained around 250 M out but was in no position to trouble the placegetters.
6 4 HAPPY KID (CC326) M Rodd B Began well and niggled along to be box-seated behind the leader through to straight. Baulked for a run for part of the straight and was not properly tested. (See Racing Incidents.)
7 1 HEALTHY (CE092) D Whyte -- Jumped well from wide draw and soon raced in a prominent position 2 wide through to straight. Unable to quicken when asked 400 M out and only kept on evenly to the line.
8 13 CHARIOT OF WEI HAI (CB144) M W Leung B/TT Jumped awkwardly from wide draw and was quickly taken to the back on rail through to straight. Under pressure 400 M out and made little impression inside final 200 M to be closest at finish.
9 12 LUCKY PACKET (CD068) O Doleuze SR-/B1 Jumped with field and ridden along to take up running on rail from 1100 M through to straight. Only able to run on evenly when asked 400 M out and slightly weakened inside final 150 M.
10 6 SILVERBIRD (CB335) F Coetzee CP-/TT Jumped fairly and soon settled in midfield or better 2 wide through to straight. Under pressure 400 M out but failed to quicken and only able to keep on same pace to the line.
11 2 LUCKY DRAGON (CD322) G Mosse B1 Tardy start and pushed along to race in a handy position 2 wide through to straight. Kept on same pace when asked 400 M out and faded steadily inside final 200 M.
12 11 FRIENDSHIP (CE066) W M Lai -- Jumped fairly and soon raced in mid-division around 3 wide without cover through to straight. Unable to make any impression when asked 400 M out.
13 3 BEST FOR ALL (CB040) S Dye B Jumped awkwardly from widest and was steadily eased to the back. Switched wide on straightening to obtain clear running but failed to show any running in the straight.
14 8 ATHLETIC GOLD (CC241) S Sanders B/TT Broke with field and steadily eased to a rearward position around 2 to 3 wide through to straight. Found nothing when asked 400 M out and steadily dropped out inside final 200 M.
