3 9 SMART KIDS (CL253) Y T Cheng TT Obtained the box seat & travelled well in transit. Was held up for clear running until the furlong. Finished off soundly once in the clear.
4 6 VITAL GOLD (N398) T Clark SR1 Settled in last position close to the running rail, with cover. Took inside runs in the straight and finished off nicely.
5 13 HAPPY CHAMPION (N027) C Y Ho TT Proved difficult to settle early, and then was posted 3 deep without cover on the circle, travelling just behind the speed. Kept whacking away in the run home despite being inconvenienced near the 50m.
6 12 BOMBER JET (N225) C K Tong H/XB Parked midfield, 3 deep with cover. Kept on one paced in the home straight.
7 5 OPEN SESAME (CL091) G Mosse TT Raced keenly along the paint in the early stages, shifted out to travel 2 wide with cover after the 800m, whilst in a prominent position. Was finishing off fairly until crowded near the 50m. Not ridden thereafter. (see incident report)
8 14 FAY DEEP (P071) K C Leung -- Went back from a wide gate travelling towards the rear, 3 deep with cover. Made steady progress down the outside in final stretch.
9 8 BEST JADE TRIUMPH (P070) M L Yeung -- Camped midfield, 2 deep with cover. Failed to find any extra in the run home, plodded to the line.
10 10 WINNAM (P119) K C Ng -- Sent forward and coasted along in the lead travelling on the fence. Still there at the furlong but faded over the final 50m.
11 1 MENTOR (N017) C Y Lui P-/B2 Began only fairly & after being tightened for room at the start failed to go the early speed, settling towards the rear of the field, 1 off with cover. Failed to make any impression in the straight.
12 2 AFFLUENCE OF RAIN (CL363) W C Marwing B/TT Missed the start badly and then improved to travel along the paint, settling with the backmakers, had cover. Plugged away to the line.
13 11 BORN TO WIN (N386) M Chadwick H1 Ridden with some patience early, but was caught 4 deep without cover on the circle, midfield. Never likely.
14 3 DRAGON BACHELOR (P128) D Whyte B Settled worse than midfield, 2 deep with cover. Shifted out to race 3-4 deep approaching the home turn, with cover. Lost momentum when disappointed for running near the 350m, never got going thereafter.
