Background:
Hong Kong Jockey Club Apprentice Jockeys’ School graduate Vincent Ho racked up 44 wins as a young rider in New Zealand under the tutelage of leading trainer Lance O’Sullivan. He made a solid start to his Hong Kong career with 10 victories in his first season in 2009/10, including a trio of wins on just his fourth race day. He sealed the 2010/11 Champion Apprentice title with 39 wins and reached the graduation benchmark on 1 October, 2012 by claiming his 70th Hong Kong win aboard Castle Hero. He notched 33 wins in 2014/15 to become the season’s leading homegrown rider. By number of wins, Ho enjoyed his best season to date in 2022/23, when he amassed a career-high 96 wins. That season also saw him become the second homegrown jockey in history to ride 500 winners in Hong Kong and claim a fourth Tony Cruz Award. However, 2020/21 could arguably be regarded as his best season, when he won five Group 1 races, including victories aboard Hong Kong champion Golden Sixty and Japan’s Loves Only You. Ho added three more Group 1 wins to his haul with Golden Sixty during the 2022/23 season. Ho had an interrupted 2023/24 season due to injury but made history as the first homegrown jockey to claim the International Jockeys’ Championship, just four days before partnering Golden Sixty to a third Hong Kong Mile victory. He also enjoyed success in Great Britain, winning at the first attempt aboard Mark Johnston-trained X Rated at Haydock in August 2018 and later winning the Shergar Cup Mile aboard Power Of Darkness at Ascot in 2019, helping the Rest of the World team secure the title. Another British stint in 2024 yielded a win aboard Love De Vega for trainer Charlie Johnston. Ho reached his 600th Hong Kong win milestone in November 2024 and added another Group race success with Galaxy Patch in the G2 Sha Tin Trophy. He was sidelined from February 2025 due to injury. In the 2025/26 season, he added another Hong Kong Classic Mile victory to his tally with Little Paradise and closed out the campaign with 38 wins. He was captain of Team Hong Kong, which finished second in the 2026 Shergar Cup at Ascot.
