Racing Incident Report

VITAL FOUNTAIN was withdrawn on 11.6.04 on veterinary grounds (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter POWER TICKER (R Fradd). Before being allowed to race again, VITAL FOUNTAIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. At the time of weighing out, F Coetzee, the rider of LIFELINE RAPIDE, was found to be 2 lb over the horse's allotted weight of 116 lbs. F Coetzee was fined $2,000 for failing to declare this overweight at the time of declaration [Rule 82(3)]. POWER TICKER was slow to begin and shortly after the start became unbalanced. EARLY BIRD bounded in the air at the start and lost ground. BODACIOUS began awkwardly. Prior to the 800 Metres, PHOENIX FORTUNE was steadied when crowded for room inside JOY TRUMPS which shifted in slightly away from the heels of STORMY RUNNER. For the major part of the race, SOCRATES raced wide and without cover and making the turn at the 800 Metres got its head on the side and hung out. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres, BODACIOUS got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of LIFELINE RAPIDE. In the middle stages, LIFELINE RAPIDE raced wide and without cover, then in the Straight did not finish the race off. Near the 300 Metres, NIGHT NINJA was shifted to the inside of COURAGEOUSHEART to obtain clear running, then passing the 200 Metres was crowded for room when COURAGEOUSHEART shifted in. COURAGEOUSHEART and NIGHT NINJA were sent for sampling.
