Racing Incident Report

LUCKY MAN was withdrawn on 14.11.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MASTER YING. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY MAN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. REWARDING STAR and SOUTH BREEZE were slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SILLY BOY was unable to maintain a forward position and near the 800 Metres was steadied away from the heels of PERFECT ATHLETE. In the middle stages, PERFECT ATHLETE hung out. For some distance after straightening, WIKI WIKI was held up and unable to improve between PERFECT ATHLETE which was giving ground and THAT'S IT. At the 300 Metres, WIKI WIKI was steadied away from the heels of THAT'S IT which drifted in. Throughout the race, KING'S CHOICE travelled wide and without cover. Apprentice K W Tsui (SMARTY FACE) said the intention had been to lead or obtain a forward position with the horse if possible. He said SMARTY FACE was a little slow to begin, he then rode his mount along and it did not quicken sufficiently to allow him to obtain a forward position, consequently he followed MASTER YING in the race which was further back than anticipated. He said on straightening he endeavoured to improve his position on the inside of VICTORY WARRIOR which shifted out slightly when commencing to give ground. He said at this time he believed there was sufficient room for him to take this run, however, near the 300 Metres VICTORY WARRIOR drifted in slightly, causing him to be disappointed for this run and check his mount severely. Apprentice Tsui was reprimanded for attempting to improve his position where there was insufficient room in the opinion of the Stewards to do so and he was told to ensure proper running existed in similar circumstances. SMARTY FACE, BYRON and WIKI WIKI were sent for sampling.
