Racing Incident Report

DR MORE was slow to begin. CONTICASTA began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped CELEBRATION. After this, CONTICASTA proved difficult to settle. In the early and middle stages, MARIBEAU proved difficult to settle. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, MULTO EXPRESSO was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CONTICASTA. Making the Home Turn, MARIBEAU hung out. In the early part of the Straight, FIRST BABY hung in, then after the 200 Metres when being ridden out shifted out abruptly. Because of this, after the 100 Metres, Apprentice K L Chui stopped riding and straightened his mount. After the 100 Metres, DR MORE was steadied away from the heels of ROMANTIC GREEN. For the major part of the race, CELEBRATION and FIRST BABY travelled wide and without cover. W C Marwing (RELY ON ME) explained he had been instructed from a wide barrier to ride the horse where it was comfortable. He said it had been explained to him RELY ON ME when racing in a forward position at recent starts had disappointed the stable in the manner in which it had finished the races off. He said therefore it was felt to be in the best interest of RELY ON ME to allow it to travel more comfortably in the early stages. He said RELY ON ME did respond to his riding for a short distance after straightening, however, then kept on only one-paced. LUCKYME and MARIBEAU were sent for sampling. After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on GOOD PARTNER at the request of Trainer K L Man. The Veterinary Officer said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GOOD PARTNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
