Racing Incident Report

ALEXANDR THE GREAT was withdrawn on 4.5.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (bled at track work) and was replaced by first Standby Declared Starter AMERICAN VICTORY. FAVOURITE RETURN was withdrawn on 6.5.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore tendon) and was replaced by second Standby Declared Starter GOODWOOD (Apprentice K T Yeung). Before being allowed to race again, FAVOURITE RETURN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After arriving at the Start, MYTHIC STEED was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was suitable to race. When the gates opened, BODACIOUS bounded in the air and lost a considerable amount of ground. CARE FREE PRINCE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MYTHIC STEED. TO THE POINT was a little slow to begin and then was further inconvenienced after making contact with EVEREST. On jumping, FLY ME TO THE MOON and GOODWOOD bumped. At the 500 Metres, BODACIOUS was steadied away from the heels of QUALITY-QUALITY. Near the 200 Metres, AMERICAN VICTORY, which was closing the race off, was checked and shifted out to avoid the heels of SUPER BONUS. At the 200 Metres, CAGA BOY and GOODWOOD bumped. At the 100 Metres, MAIN ATTRACTION was steadied when crowded for room between QUALITY-QUALITY and GLOBE RIVER which got its head on the side and shifted in away from MYTHIC STEED. Over the concluding stages, MYTHIC STEED hung in. Just prior to the winning post, EVEREST, which was giving ground, was steadied when awkwardly placed inside CARE FREE PRINCE. Throughout the race, TO THE POINT travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. When questioned, Y T Cheng (CAGA BOY) said he enjoyed a comfortable run until after the 500 Metres. He said at that time he noticed GOODWOOD commenced to shift out to go forward and he elected to shift out at that time prior to straightening to endeavour to find clear running. He said when he did this, QUALITY-QUALITY which had been racing to his inside shifted away from the rail. He said in the early part of the Straight when GLOBE RIVER held its position on his outside and GOODWOOD and MAIN ATTRACTION did not quicken, he was awkwardly placed and not able to place his mount under full pressure for some distance. He said as a consequence of this he was not able to properly test CAGA BOY. CAGA BOY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CAGA BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. SKYVIEW BAR and MYTHIC STEED were sent for sampling.
