Racing Incident Report

HAPPY MOMENTUM jumped awkwardly and bumped the outside of its gate. When the gates opened, FLORAL JOY jumped with its head up. In the early stages, DEPECHE MODE had a tendency to over-race. Rounding the Home Turn, NEW TRUMPS had a tendency to get its head up and lay out. The Stewards overruled the objection lodged by W C Marwing, the rider of HAPPY MOMENTUM, which dead-heated with BUMPER STORM for 2nd. W C Marwing had alleged interference to his mount about 50 Metres from the line. The Stewards were of the opinion that approaching the winning post HAPPY MOMENTUM and BUMPER STORM shifted in slightly together, resulting in HAPPY MOMENTUM making contact with NEW TRUMPS, shifting out and bumping BUMPER STORM. They were not of the opinion that the interference justified an alteration to the Judge's placings and accordingly the placings as semaphored were confirmed. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon reported that COLOURFUL ERA had sustained a laceration to its near side hind cannon. He said that the wound indicated to him the horse had been galloped on.
