Racing Incident Report

Mr D A Hayes, trainer of CALIFORNIA KID, was fined $2,000 for initially declaring B Marcus to ride the horse when B Marcus had a firm commitment for THE GRAND ROOF. The error was corrected 15 minutes after declaration time and D Dunn, who was always to ride the horse, was notified as the jockey. PREMIER SPEED was slowly away. Near the 800 Metres, THE GRAND ROOF was momentarily steadied and shifted out to avoid HOKKIEN ALL. About the 500 Metres, COLLEGE TOWN was steadied and shifted out slightly to avoid the heels of FLYING MACHINE. RETURN A SMILE, which was following COLLEGE TOWN, accidentally clipped that horse's heels, stumbled and nearly fell. At the 200 Metres, CALIFORNIA KID was steadied and shifted out to find running.
