Racing Incident Report

DURANDAL began awkwardly and shortly afterwards was checked when crowded for room between GRAND ZULU and EAGLE RISE which shifted in. VALENTINO and ORIENTAL MAGIC were slow to begin. In the early stages, MERIDIAN STAR proved very difficult to settle and on a number of occasions got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of MARTILLO. For the major part of the race, MARTILLO hung in, after the 1400 Metres and again near the 1200 Metres shifted in away from GRAND ZULU and caused crowding to TELEGNOSIS and VALENTINO which were racing to its inside. In the circumstances, no action was taken. In the early stages, GRAND ZULU proved difficult to settle. At the 900 Metres, ANTONIUS PIUS was steadied when awkwardly placed between MERIDIAN STAR and DURANDAL. In the early part of the Straight, PERFECT PARTNER had some difficulty obtaining clear running behind FIGURES. After the 300 Metres, MARTILLO, which was continuing to hang in, proved difficult to shift to the outside of FIREBREAK into clear running. Near the 100 Metres, EAGLE RISE and GRAND ZULU were momentarily crowded for room between MARTILLO and THE DUKE which shifted in slightly. DURANDAL, FIREBREAK, PERFECT PARTNER and THE DUKE were sent for sampling.
